I've noticed that the Top Display on my SL-3 behaves erratically. I have been experimenting with many ideas and settings, but haven't been able to ascertain how it is "supposed" to function.

Sometimes mine lights up when i half press the shutter button. If i want to set a distance scale and I begin turning the focus ring, it then turns off in a few seconds
before i can actually accomplish setting the focus where i want and often, i can NOT get the Top Display to come back on.

Other times, it comes on and stays on for minutes at a time but then goes dark and i can't find a consistent way to get it to light up again!

I haven't found any settings to Toggle it on to have it STAY on, has anyone else had issues with this?  ...is this a bug or might i have a defective unit?

It sounds like you are using manual focus mode. I think you have to soft press shutter release and focus. As far as it timing out, maybe thats a setting in power saving mode( can’t remember what its called) Maybe set that to go into standby mode after a longer time. If that makes sense.

Thanks, yes Manual Focus mode as the distance setting scale doesn't work in any other mode. There is a glitch that I experienced and have now done a Full RESET and now the camera seems to behaving normally with regard to the Top Display issue I posted.
