Olaf_ZG Posted November 21, 2024 Share #1 Posted November 21, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) What’s in a name? in the end a Q40/50 has been realized with the Q3 43. It made many people happy, and I guess sales is rather ok. The naming leaves space for speculation though. There could be a Q3 21 or a Q3 75 or may be the Q3 100 to celebrate 100 years of Leica… what’s in a name? Do you think there might be plans for an extended range? Would you buy one? Qwertynm Posted November 22, 2024 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2024 I think another Q or two is more likely than a compact-rangefinderstyle L-mount or EVF-M camera
LocalHero1953 Posted November 22, 2024 Share #3 Posted November 22, 2024 (edited) If there is to be a third Q lens, my guess would be around 75, although (given that Leica has shown it may not stick to simple focal lengths) arithmetic suggests 66 (43 * 43/28). But with each increase in focal length, the Q eliminates a number of potential buyers who would choose a wider lens and crop. Are there enough buyers for a Q3 75? As someone who switched from Q2 to Q3 43, sometimes I miss the wider focal lengths (but not enough to buy a Q3 28!) I guess it depends partly on how much R&D is involved in each Q variant. The body remains unchanged, but they have to develop a small, fast AF lens with OIS and leaf shutter - I doubt that is trivial!
