PeeDeeVee Posted November 8, 2024 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I've been trying to shoot a burst of shots with my q3. I was trying to capture some lightning. I put it into mf, 1/500,iso 800. I set the drive to 14fps But when I hit the shutter release there is a sec or two lag before the exposures start. Any idea how to correct this?

ruskkyle Posted November 8, 2024 Share #2 Posted November 8, 2024 Sorry to ask the obvious, but was the self timer active?

EddieCheddar Posted November 8, 2024 Share #4 Posted November 8, 2024 Hello PeeDeeVee. You may also want to try "Interval" mode. For example: Set the camera to take 1 photo every second for 60 seconds starting in 10 seconds. It's sort of like fishing. Toss your line in and see if you catch anything.

That's a useful technique but not for what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to take 14 or so frames as fast as the camera can take them - which looks like about 10 frames per second in DNG. It does seem to take them all but it doesn't start taking them the moment I press and hold the shutter. It lags almost a full second before it starts capturing. So in this instance I was shooting lightning over a cathedral. As soon as the lightning struck I hammered the shutter to capture as many frames as I could as fast as I could so I could get variations of the lightning. But I'd hit the shutter and I wouldn't get the first frame till almost a full second later when the lightning was gone. I'm thinking now, as I type, that perhaps I need even faster SD cards. I'm using Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS II 128Gb cards which I can capture 24fps at 47mp on my Canon. I'd assumed they would be fast enough
ruskkyle Posted November 8, 2024 Share #6 Posted November 8, 2024 I think that’s probably it. You need V90 SD cards ideally. I use the Angelbird ones and have no issues.
PeeDeeVee Posted November 9, 2024 Author Share #7 Posted November 9, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll look into that but even UHS ii cards are faster than 90mb/s. I think they're 135 or so. Could be some other difference I'm not aware of
ruskkyle Posted November 9, 2024 Share #8 Posted November 9, 2024 I just tested on the settings you mentioned an at 15fps there is no delay.
PeeDeeVee Posted November 9, 2024 Author Share #9 Posted November 9, 2024 (edited) I was playing with it now and it worked as well. Only difference is that I switched to jpg. I think it may be dng vs jpg. I'm on a flight in a few minutes I'll check while in flight and post when I can. Thanks for your help! I just played with it too and it is working perfectly now. I reloaded a user profile so I must have had something set that slowed it down. Thankfully all is well Thanks!
