Hi everyone,

I’m working with my SL2-S, and I’ve noticed that the enhanced live view (focus peaking, etc.) automatically kicks in after focus lock. However, I’d prefer to keep the manual exposure preview on at all times instead of having the enhanced view activate automatically. Ideally, I’d like to enable enhanced live view only when I choose, rather than it taking over after I focus. I have it set to a button on the body for this very reason. It is quite annoying when using a flash or trigger or as well.

Has anyone found a way to adjust this setting so the manual exposure preview remains active, with the option to manually turn on enhanced live view when needed? Any advice would be appreciated! I've seen some forum posts around this issue (on the SL3) but no one seems to have figured it out.

Thanks in advance,

Zak

Most people don't use Enhanced view because it disables many functions of monitoring like Focus Peaking, and AF performance reduction.

The exposure preview is still active when pushing the shutter. Enhanced live view can be assigned to a button.

This tool is a helper for composition and framing, it is not active when you zoom in to MF. Most people use it for night photography where they can't see anything in the landscape.

You probably want to play with the Exposure preview setting instead when using flash.

Thanks for your response! I think there’s a bit of a misunderstanding about what I’m asking.

Disregarding the flash question, even in regular shooting conditions with Enhanced Live View turned off and Exposure Preview set to P-A-S-M, the issue is that once focus lock is achieved, the exposure preview I see on the display shifts. It no longer matches my exposure settings but instead adjusts to what amounts to an automatic exposure preview.

This behavior is very similar to what happens when Enhanced Live View is turned on. However, I want the display to consistently show the actual exposure preview based on my settings, even after focus lock is achieved, without it shifting to an automatically adjusted view.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this or if there’s a setting I’m missing? Appreciate the help!

After some intense trial and error, I think I’ve figured out the exposure preview issue I described earlier. Here’s what I found:

The problem only occurs when the AF mode is set to iAF or AFc, both of which use continuous autofocus. When using an M lens or an L lens in AFs mode, the issue doesn’t happen.

Here’s a breakdown of what I noticed:

With an M lens, there’s no issue at all since there’s no focus lock. (Thankfully this is how I shoot much of the time)

With an L lens in AFs mode, the exposure preview may jump around for a fraction of a second before focus locks, but it then stabilizes and matches the manual exposure settings perfectly.

However, when using iAF or AFc, the exposure preview consistently shifts to an automatic adjustment (middle-gray exposure) after focus locks, regardless of settings.

It seems this behavior is tied directly to any mode involving continuous focus. Hopefully, this insight helps others experiencing similar issues.

yes, the sensor need enought light to focus accurately. and if your exposure is set much darker you will see this exposure movement.

in addition to your setting, there is one more option to consider.

PREFOCUS, even if you are not shooting just this second, the camera will try to focus and predict what you next step will be.

I have this turned off because when I put the camera on my shoulder or in the bag, it will still do that and drain the battery
