I hope this function is the same available on the new D-Lux 8? Or only by motor now?? Thank you in advance 🙏

PanHay Posted October 29, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 29, 2024 Only by the zoom lever unfortunately. The ring is for manual focus.
leimark Posted October 29, 2024 Share #3 Posted October 29, 2024 I find the zoom lever okay to work with, and it’s placed in good position ergonomically speaking, but what I miss is the option to set zoom to a predefined number. It’s trick to set it exactly to 50mm ff equivalent for instance.

leimark Posted October 29, 2024 Share #5 Posted October 29, 2024 unfortunately, no. there’s a focus and an aperture ring on the lens, but zooming is done exclusively via a lever on top of the camera.

Hopefully this missing function of "zoom ring" setting will be corrected on the DL8 by firmware update in the future... ?
summarity Posted November 2, 2024 Share #7 Posted November 2, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) The zoom speed is really really too slow (YMMV - it is for my shooting). Motors always have an inherent trade off between speed and torque, but I do hope we can get a minor adjustment in the future (ala the RX100). I found myself zooming while the camera is down in my shooting hand. The extremes are easy to find and I’ve sort of trained myself to remember how long it takes to get to 45ish. However the fact that the camera returns to 24mm after any power (or even sleep!) cycle is very annoying. I know it’s a point and shoot but this prevents any muscle memory from forming. At least an option to remember the last setting would be nice, or, as mentioned above, a button assigned to jump to a set FL (kind of like an electronically controlled MATE). Mapping the control ring would need some sort of acceleration or you’d turn it forever. And if accelerated it wouldn’t feel particularly connected to the lens. But it might be better than the rocker. Particularly of you’re coming from a Q and constantly zoom when you mean to turn the camera off or on 😁
yst Posted November 9, 2024 Author Share #8 Posted November 9, 2024 On the new DLUX 8, for what reason that Leica get rid of the useful functions on the DLUX 7 that the ring on the lens could be for zooming? Why? Also no programmable to set the zooming to return to previous position after turned off... Why? Can those functions be upgraded from Leica back on the D-Lux 8?
Foxtwo Posted November 12, 2024 Share #9 Posted November 12, 2024 The solution is think of using the zoom feature to “frame your shot” instead of using it to “change the lens”. A change in mindset will work wonders compared to asking “why” Leica does what they do. No one here knows.
