jgeenen Posted October 25, 2024 Share #9 Posted October 25, 2024 I usually have two items at hand to keep my camera clean: A Zeiss Lens Cleaning kit consisting of lens cleaning fluid, a small brush, a microfibre cloth and a blower (and some lens cleaning paper tissues, which I only use for the LCD screen), and a microfibre towel to wipe off rain drops when necessary. The Lens cleaning kit obviously can be replaced by items from various other brands - if you nicely ask your Leica dealer, he will give you a microfibre cloth for free and a big "rocket blower" is more powerful than the small blower in the kit, and the lenspens are a neat combo of a brush and a small wiper - very nice for the view finder eye piece. The fluid liquid and microfibre cloth are pretty much standard, I haven't seen any flawed products, bad brushes may lose hairs when in use or cannot be covered (which is important to protect the brush against grease). Big blowers with builtin dust filters are to be preferred for sensor cleaning (which is nothing you can do by yourself on a Q) And now I want to see your photos, please ...
Anbaric Posted October 25, 2024 Share #10 Posted October 25, 2024 If you have to pay for your own rocket blower, the large Giottos is the one to get (beware of imitations on ebay and from the more dubious Amazon traders). https://www.wexphotovideo.com/giottos-aa1900-rocket-air-blower-13374/ https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/259157-REG/Giottos_AA1900_Rocket_Air_Blower.html I like these single-use Zeiss wipes for lenses, to be used after the rocket to make sure there's no grit on your lens that might cause scratches, and only when really necessary: https://www.amazon.co.uk/ZEISS-Binoculars-Individually-Disposable-Spectacle-White/dp/B00IKGH2TI
jbripley Posted October 26, 2024 Share #11 Posted October 26, 2024 I like VSGO cleaning kit. High quality blower, with a compact brush and a pouch that rolls up small to keep in your bag.
Trankster Posted October 26, 2024 Share #12 Posted October 26, 2024 (edited) I always have a bulb type blower in my bag to blow off any dust on the lens. I also carry a microfiber lens cloth but rarely use it. I have a protective glass cover on the LCD, so any clean cloth or t-shirt is used for smudges. If I have been traveling somewhere dusty, I will wipe the camera down daily with a clean dry or damp cloth. I very rarely need to clean my lens or filters, but after blowing the dust off I will use a quality lens spray on the microfiber cloth to clean. The ones who are making light probably feel that someone who shells out $9K (CDN) should know the basics of a cleaning kit.
Le Chef Posted October 26, 2024 Share #14 Posted October 26, 2024 I use an old spectacle cleaning cloth for the lens filter, and a Q-tip for the body. Don’t need anything fancy.
