Sold my Q3 for a QP

Hello together,

I’d like to share with you my experience on the like Q3 which I had now for a couple of weeks, but decided to sell it.

I am a long-year Leica user living just two hours away from Wetzlar and I’ve had most of the cameras from the Q line from the SL line in every iteration.

Having this said, I once swore to myself that I will never ever sell my Leica Q. I had grown fond of it, and took some of my best pictures with it. Then, I broke my vow in order to get a Q3, which from a perspectives of specs seemed to massive upgrade and a no-brainer for me (especially jumping the Q2)

Now I have been using the Q3 for some weeks and I do not love it. It seems to me somewhat too technical,  too optimized, I don’t like the button layout, I really do not need 60 megapixels and a flip screen, and I did not feel the same joy grabbing it and taking it out for photography. Plus, I find the EVS quite annoying, it’s either overly sharp, or somehow blurry, I don’t know what it is. It irritates me. 

Besides that, I have been using a Nikon Z F for the last six months, and that camera blew me away. Still no comparison to the Leica in terms of simplicity and menus, but boy does the Nikon deliver. Perfect EVS, almost perfect photos. So I decided it is too much having a $6000 camera sitting around as a second gear which I do not love. So I sold it, and I bought back a Q-P which cost me almost 3 grand less than like a Q3. I had it once in the past, and it’s the most beautiful camera I’ve ever had. Now you get really good deals on ebay (at least in Germany where consumer law protects you from fraud maybe better than in US) 

I learned my lesson, sometimes newer does not mean forcingly better. Stick to what you are used to, don’t let GAS rule your day, and besides, to be honest, technological advancements in the past years have rather been incremental than radical. Different from what the industry makes you believe. So I am convinced high end camera from 2015 or 2017 can still be a top camera today.

Macht es eigentlich mehr her, wenn man im "Deutschen Leica-Forum" seinen Beitrag auf Englisch verfaßt? Der Inhalt ist ja für viele Leser ziemlich belanglos.

Das war ganz klar ein Versehen. Ich dachte ich wäre im internationalen Forum. Kleiner Handy Bildschirm macht es nicht einfacher. Sorry dafür, einfach ignorieren.

Alles gut, ich hatte es mir schon fast gedacht. In der Sache kann ich nur voll zustimmen. Auch ich habe schon mal an einen Wechsel von der Q2 zurück nach Q-P nachgedacht.

Mittlerweile werden die Beiden preislich allerdings ebenbürtig gehandelt. Da denkt man nochmal neu darüber nach.

Interessant, habe Dir gerade im internationalen Forum auf die Frage beantworte, ob Du mit der Zf oder der Q3 in den Urlaub fahren sollst. Da Du die Q3 vor 10 Tagen verkauft hast, nimm die Zf…

Hi Monty, genau das ist richtig. Das war auch so.

Nur zur Info der Chronologie der letzten Tage: Ich hatte mir tatsächlich die Q-P geholt, leider war diese schon bei Lieferung defekt (Auslöser war kaputt, laut Leica-Service  lag dies an einem Fremdkörper im Auslöser selbst. Folge: Q-P hat immer zweimal fokussiert - einmal bei Half Press und einmal beim Durchdrücken) und der nette E-Bay Verkäufer hat sie entsprechend zurückgenommen. Gleichzeitig hatte ich einen sehr guten Deal für eine Q3 in der Bucht entdeckt (4.800 EUR inkl. original-Thumbgrip und original Handgriff mit Ladegerät) wo man nicht nein sagen kann. Man kann mir Inkonsequenz unterstellen, aber das ist eine Begleiterscheinung von GAS. Thread Ende.

Das lass ich lieber und pack mir an die eigene Nase, will ja vielleicht auch kurzfristig wechseln..
