Can you share some B/W images from the M10R in monochrome mode? Or converted in PS from RAW?

I have to decide between M10R (more versatile usage since I can do color images and convert to B/W) or M10 Monochrom.

Has anyone shot IR using a filter on M10R? Do you have images you can share?

TIA.

I can’t compare with the Monochrom, but I found very little difference between my M10-R in mono jpg vs mono conversion in LrC. Haven’t tried Silver Efx but have heard good things about it.

Here are three from three different lenses. The M10R gives very little away to the M10Monochrom in my opinion. It certainly is nice sometimes to take out the M10M. It keeps you focused on mono, but for one camera to do it all, the R is enough. The M10M is like the icing on the cake. These are all processed in LR Classic. I haven't used the Silver Efex Pro software for years.

Very happy with M10-R for monochrome work. Open in PS RAW, desaturate 100%, tweak contrast/highlight/shadow as required, then additional localised work on the 16 bit file in PS.

This shot on M10-R and Apo-Summicron 75mm at f/8 and forming part of my contribution to a photographic exhibition at the de Rothschild’s Palais des Vaches gallery in the New Forest.

Others in the exhibition include Sam Haskins and Michael Meyersfeld - if you’re in the area, it’s open most weekends until Christmas (11am-4pm) and you would be most welcome.

That is interesting.I think that your photos with the Monochrom have a very distinctive look - and these don't! I've no doubt t it's all down to the processing.

Hi AJYan

I found this comparison test that might help you make your decision:

"B&W ISO Showdown 2021: Leica Q2 Monochrom / M10 Monochrom / Q2 / M10-R" by David Farkas, February 21, 2021

https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2021/02/bw-iso-showdown-2021-leica-q2-monochrom-vs-m10-monochrom-vs-q2-vs-m10-r/

I quote from his summary:

"For the ideal maximum ISO matchup on the M10M and M10-R I used the full range of ISO values, not just whole stops. Both cameras allow for 1/3-stop increments in ISO which is good since noise performance doesn't always change linearly. Here, the ideal maximum of the M10M was indeed at one of these settings. Below you can see that the M10 Monochrom at ISO 32000 matches up nicely with the M10-R at ISO 12500, resulting in a 1 and 1/3-stop improvement in low light ability in favor of the B&W camera."

And further below:

"So, after all that exhaustive testing, what have we discovered? First, Leica has really pushed the performance envelope of its latest generation of cameras. Secondly, there continues to be no doubt that removing the color filter array from the sensor results in a very real and tangible advantage for high ISO shooting. The purpose-built Monochrom isn't just a gimmick. For black and white shooting, a Monochrom is demonstrably superior once you start venturing into the higher ISO ranges.

As for the color cameras, both turned out admirable results. If you don't need to venture beyond ISO 6400, either (M10-R vs Q2) will serve you well."

Yours Jackus
