AJYan Posted October 4, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looking at M10R but one of my lenses is an Elmarit-M 28mm. Manual says exposure measurement only possible in live view.. does this mean I can’t manually select exposure with the exposure indicator arrows, but must always use Live View to get exposure indication with this lens? What about a Voightlander 21mm lens. Would that have the same limitation? Please help. Need to make a decision in a few days.

andybarton Posted October 4, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2024 You can meter just as you would do with any M-mount lens, including the Voigtlander.
mujk Posted October 4, 2024 Share #3 Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) The statement in the manual refers to lenses that protrude considerably into into the body and may therefore partially block the exposure meter sensor measuring the light falling on the grey part of the shutter curtains. This potential issue applies to all Leica Ms with an exposure meter prior to the M11, i.e. M6 through M10-R. In Live View exposure is metered of the sensor, so there this problem does not exist. In the case of the Elmarit 28mm/2.8 this statement only applies to the early batches of the first version, in practice those lenses manufactured 1965-1969. The manual also mentions the Super-Angulon 21mm versions as having the same issue. They were manufactured 1959-1980. There are several different 21mm Voigtländer versions, but I have not heard of any having this same issue. However, some of the older Voigtländers may exhibit color casts at the left and right edges ("Italian flag") on digital M cameras, but this is a totally different problem. So unless you have one of the early Elmarit 28mm/2.8s (check the serial number!), you will be fine on the M10-R also in normal metering mode. I do have what appears to be a v3 from 1980, does not protrude out the back into the camera, so I should be fine. Another question, if you don’t mind. I’ve never had a lens hood for the 28, and am looking for one now. They are hard to find, and when they do pop ip, are very expensive. Can you recommend a less expensive - under $50 - option? I think it’s the 12536.

I think it’s the 12536. Yes, original hood availability is a problem also for much newer Leica wide angle lenses (e.g. the 12526 hood). You may try to search for third-party replacements, but these seem to be rare. Another alternative is a third-party round metal hood with cutouts that screws into the filter thread of the lens. Of course these look quite different than the original square one. I purchased one of these round metal hoods for about 10€+delivery costs on Amazon for my Summicron 50/2 (current) because of the insufficient shading provided by the built-in hood and it is quite nice. theseahawk Posted October 5, 2024 Share #6 Posted October 5, 2024 Looks like your question about the Elmarit 28mm has been answered, but to add on, I use both that lens and a Voigtlander 21mm Nokton on my M10-R without issues. Latter worked great on Astro photography in Joshua Tree.

First, thank you all. My first experience on this site has been extraordinary. i found this on Amazon, ordered it, and hope it will fit. We’ll find out….and no cutout so it might obscure the rangefinder. Will try it when I receive the camera. Welcome, dear visitor!
