Anyone live with the Q2/Q3 as their only camera?

I mainly shoot Travel, Landscape with the odd bit of street. The Q3 looks like an attractive option for me, but would it be a good option for my needs if it was my only camera?

I have the D-LUX 8 but I am still debating if thats good enough for corner sharpness and 17mp is rather low, its very nice for a walkabout but thats it.

I understand about the crop modes and various MP options, but was interested to hear from Leica Q shooters if they can use this model as their only camera?

I guess the SL3 would be the obvious choice but its much heavier and the AF lenses make it a very heavy combo.

Hi, I think that, ultimately, only you can answer your question. But for what it’s worth, it was the Q3 that brought me back to photography after more than 20 years. A big part of that return was the fact that it was self-contained (I.e., no multiple lenses, no having to think about what lenses to buy/take with me, and so on). I have the 28 version and it suits me fine. Went for a family walk through a forest at the weekend and took landscapes, family portraits and close-up shots of Autumnal fungi (using the macro function). In short, it does everything I need it to do. It might do everything you need it to do, but as I said, only you will know what that is. I can heartily recommend it, regardless. It’s a joy to both own and use.

I have the Q2 as my only digital camera for about  2 years now, it has and does everything I need.

The Q3 is definitely enough in my view (28mm).

I'm using the Q2M as my only camera for the last 3 years. I have a whole collection of cameras and lenses, dating back from 35 years of photography.

I love the simplicity of having a single camera with a single lens. Plenty for my needs.

the SL2s plus zooms is for events

the m10m for b/w

the RF and G1 for film

the q3 43 will my toss around, daily carry though…

Have been involved in photography in one way or another since the late 70’s.

About ten or so years ago I lost interest in photography as a ‘hobby’.

Five years ago I sold my kit and replaced it all with the original Q.  Other than a Leica lll for the odd time I feel like shooting film, the Q is my only camera.

Now admittedly I’ve always been a wide angle kind of guy…but I have enjoyed personal photography more in the last five years than the previous fifteen.

If you can get by GAS…reading everything you read on the net and working around the limits of one lens…can you live with a Q as your only camera…HELL YA!!! 😀

I tried but I couldn't do it.  Q2 and now Q3.  As much as I like them and use the Q3 28 now as my main camera, there are times when I need more reach or a different perspective.  You just can't get that with a single focal length until your subject matter is pretty limited.

I don't shoot professionally and with that in mind:

Either the Q2 or Q3 can be your only camera if your use case is 28mm - 50mm. 

A camera that you are likely to carry is better than the perfect camera that is too heavy or large. I would never carry SL2 with SL APOs - been there, done that, but no more as I prefer light and small. Same for S2 with S Primes that I lugged around on hikes in Montana and elsewhere a decade ago.

Q2 and now Q3 is my carry anywhere, no compromise "system".

However, I make an exception for Hasselbad X2D: I carry it on trips where I am unlikely to go again. More for the colors and the output it gives me that to my eyes no full frame system can match. All subjective of course.

Are you happy with the Dlux 8? IMO, corner sharpness, or lack of it, is highly overrated consideration. You may not like the big albatross like the SL series and SL primes around your neck for hours.
