ALScott Posted October 2, 2024 Share #1  Posted October 2, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am in YNP and headed to Grand Tetons. I have missed focus on a few animal shots. There has been some grass etc in between me and subject but not that much and sometimes none. Some have been 100 yards to several hundred yards. First time shooting wildlife. Any tips on set up of camera would be appreciated. I have been using field focus mode.

ImmerDraussen Posted October 2, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted October 2, 2024 You can try spot instead of field, but the focussing is slower or you stay with field and correct manually. Animal face detection could work, but I have no experience using it.
LeicaRFan Posted October 2, 2024 Share #3  Posted October 2, 2024 Hello ALScott I use spot focus mode (AFS) often for sitting birds, is the best in my opinion for static animal objects. Animal detection is not always correct, when grass between the subject. It need a little bit of training, do not give up. So you can use the MF ring from the SIgma to correct the AF of the camera, when the object is static.  Best regards Christian
