Bauhaus? I'm not sure if Barnack thought of the original Leica as Bauhaus design. "Form follows function"? As discussed above in the Popular Photography article I quoted, the form was very important and it was really a matter of fitting the desired functions into the predetermined form. Size and handling were paramount.

As for similarities with the early Barnack cameras, the M, and the Q: the shutter speed dial is on the top plate near the shutter release and the aperture ring is around the lens; as I read somewhere once, "as God intended them to be."

That guy who is 3D printing the plastic body shells should definitely buy one of these chassis - finally his project makes sense!
