rouge_homme Posted September 28, 2024 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) While setting up my new Q3 43 today, I encountered a peculiarity with the various display options and capture assistants. According to the user manual, there are 3 available display options: 1. No information (essentially a clear screen with just the focus point/box) 2. Info bar at bottom + capture assistants if activated (grid, level, histogram, clipping) 3. Info bar at top/bottom + capture assistants However, when I activate the grid, it becomes visible on the first display - is this normal? I generally prefer to shoot with an empty screen but like to have the grid option available at the press of a button when needed (which you can easily do on the SL3). Thanks! Le Chef Posted September 28, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 28, 2024 I’m sure you simply toggle through display options using the central controller button.

Yes, you can toggle through the options. But my point is that the grid lines are shown in all display options when activated, including the first view where no ‘capture assistants’ are supposed to be shown. Carrot Posted September 28, 2024 Share #4 Posted September 28, 2024 I thought all display options were user defined, in which case your camera has grid lines selected for each option.

The Q3 doesn’t offer the same level of customisation as the SL3 where you can select the individual elements for each option - unless there is something I’m missing. You can only turn the capture assistants ‘on’ or ‘off’ and how they are applied is then determined by the camera. When the grid lines are switched on, they are applied to all display options as you toggle through, while the other capture assistants (histogram etc.) are not. This seems odd to me, hence my question.
ianforber Posted September 30, 2024 Share #6 Posted September 30, 2024 I don’t have my Q2 with me to check but I’m pretty sure I managed to customise the capture assistants. I think I went to the menu option “Capture Assistants” then chose “Grid Setup” (or whatever it is called) and could toggle it on or off. I have it switched off on most of my user profiles so rotating through the displays using the centre button it never appears. The exception is my Tripod user profile, where I have the grids and the horizon display on so they appear as I rotate through the capture assistants by pressing the centre button. Does that not work on the Q3?

Having to go into the menu each time to turn the grid lines on or off is a pain. My question is why the grid lines are treated differently to the other capture assistants, which can be toggled on or off at the press of a button while shooting. Seems a little odd and also contradicts the user manual so I might drop an email to Leica.
