75 suited Posted September 20, 2024 Share #1 Posted September 20, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I was out shooting lightnings the other day and did a 6 minutes exposure, after the 6 minutes of letting the light in, the camera took another 6 minutes for noise reduction. Now my question is, is the noise reduction necessary when shooting at low ISO on tripod? Especially at those extra long exposures. I guess the noise reduction was on by default. Thank for the feedback. Edited September 20, 2024 by 75 suited

hmzimelka Posted September 20, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 20, 2024 For me personally, I don't think it's necessary. I do the occasional 2-8 minute long exposure, and haven't been bothered by hot pixels. The image below was exposed for 4 minutes and can't find a single odd pixel. I've seen a few odd pixels with my 8min exposures but its so minimal it doesn't at all justify the LeNR wait time... Welcome, dear visitor! 75 suited Posted September 20, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted September 20, 2024 I turned it off too I figured even if there are any hot pixels it takes way less time to remove them in post than wait every time. I will see how it goes
Photoworks Posted September 21, 2024 Share #4 Posted September 21, 2024 some of the software like Capture one and LrC already remove hot pixel and for the noise I would suggest using DxO PureRaw
