I was out shooting lightnings the other day and did a 6 minutes exposure, after the 6 minutes of letting the light in, the camera took another 6 minutes for noise reduction. Now my question is, is the noise reduction necessary when shooting at low ISO on tripod? Especially at those extra long exposures.

I guess the noise reduction was on by default. Thank for the feedback.

For me personally, I don't think it's necessary.

I do the occasional 2-8 minute long exposure, and haven't been bothered by hot pixels.

The image below was exposed for 4 minutes and can't find a single odd pixel. I've seen a few odd pixels with my 8min exposures but its so minimal it doesn't at all justify the LeNR wait time...
