A Q3 without a screen would be like an M11-D with auto-focus and a fixed lens.  I don't use video either but it doesn't bother me that the Q3 has it.  One of the features of the tilt screen is to get lower shots.  I use that all the time for automotive work.  Without the screen you would be losing one of the best features of the camera.  

I could never understand the whole "chimping" thing either.  I fail to see anything wrong with reviewing a shot if you want to, especially in challenging lighting situations.  Sometimes if you take a photo of somebody they like to see it.  I think there are more advantages to having a screen than not having it.  If you don't want to use it, just turn it off.

What you say is called "common sense"; this business of getting an electronic camera to somehow give the look and feel of a film camera by further complicating the whole process of photography is an entirely different field of study of the myriad ways of how human minds can work
