But there is no 'reason' involved in a -D of any variety.

mhasman Posted September 17, 2024 Share #24 Posted September 17, 2024 Hm... might be good commercial product idea - Q3 screen cap. Rectangular, sitting tight, with same as body leatherette pattern.

Simone_DF Posted September 18, 2024 Share #27 Posted September 18, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) all cameras with a flip screen can be turned into a -D variant by flipping the screen on its back. I keep my S5II this way when not in use for extra protection.
Camaro5 Posted September 20, 2024 Share #28 Posted September 20, 2024 A Q3 without a screen would be like an M11-D with auto-focus and a fixed lens. I don't use video either but it doesn't bother me that the Q3 has it. One of the features of the tilt screen is to get lower shots. I use that all the time for automotive work. Without the screen you would be losing one of the best features of the camera. I could never understand the whole "chimping" thing either. I fail to see anything wrong with reviewing a shot if you want to, especially in challenging lighting situations. Sometimes if you take a photo of somebody they like to see it. I think there are more advantages to having a screen than not having it. If you don't want to use it, just turn it off.

What you say is called "common sense"; this business of getting an electronic camera to somehow give the look and feel of a film camera by further complicating the whole process of photography is an entirely different field of study of the myriad ways of how human minds can work
