Hello,

I am experiencing regular black outs of my camera. The first time it happened I did not know what to do and restarted the camera, rebooted it etc etc.

I have now discovered that when I take the 24-90 lens off and put it on again, the problem is solved

I am however not entirely happy with this. I was considering to send the camera to Leica, as the zoom has also some play, but the idea that I would loose my camera for 9+ months turned me off.

Anybody an idea what the camera is suffering from and what to do?

Hello JJJS,

I experienced a similar problem with an SL2-S and since I was lucky it was still during the guarantee period, I sent it to Leica for repair. But as you mentioned, this takes ages. Anyway, in the meantime, I bought a second hand Leica SL Type 601, which I was using before.

After I held again the SL 601 in my hands, I realized, how much more I enjoyed the SL 601 - It is much more robust - it has the cleaner design - the rubber doesn't go off the body and it never failed - it does not suffer from "shutter shock" - ISO advantage is about 1 EV

The SL 601 was by far the best Leica made in 2000+

After I got the SL2-S back, I sold it and do not regret this since then.

My recommendation for you:

Send the SL2-S for repair and get a SL 601 or a Lumix S5 in the meantime. Keep the 24-90. I have the same lens and it seems, that they have all a little play in the barrel.

Kind regards,

Josef

....they told me, that they had to change the motherboard due to a defect in the electronic.....it appears to me, that they do not really identify the error, but rather exchange complete units.....anyway, if my Leica SL 601 will break one day, I will most probably buy a Panasonic......sold also my 90 and 50 SL-APO Summicrons and replaced them by LUMIX 50mm 1.4 ( a amazing lens) and the Lumix 85mm 1.4, which can stand up to the 90 APO Summicron.....but I kept the 24-90, which I consider still as one of the best all round zoom.....

Greetings,

Josef
