egrossman Posted September 12, 2024 Share #1  Posted September 12, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received the 3rd party steel rim mod for the pre-A so that it accepts regular E43 filters (the seller is cats.paw on Ebay out of Thailand https://www.ebay.com/itm/387350587741). Installation took about 15 minutes and there is an instructional video which was helpful (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6xRUrbTN-Y). Although expensive, I think this mod is absolutely worth it. Makes the lens much more compact and now I can use regular filters. Welcome, dear visitor! corky87 Posted June 23 Share #3  Posted June 23 @JMF Very late on this thread but could you give more detail on this setup. Looking to do something like this or what @egrossman did.

Looking to do something like this or what @egrossman did. Hello, I guess you mean the conversion to allow mounting a threaded filter and hood . The threaded ring set up  on my lens was machined in Hong Kong . The link on ebay is an easier choice of ring !  Skyllaneyoptomechanics in Scotland sells a kit as well: https://www.instagram.com/p/DADIPfUIfSY/?igsh=ZWRxdzF5Y3g1d2Vh https://www.instagram.com/p/DAGLphLoawA/?igsh=MWwwa2hkMDV4amtlbA==  Hope this helps !  Edited June 23 by JMF

LocalHero1953 Posted June 24 Share #14 Â Posted June 24 (edited) I have just ordered the Omnar one (previously Skyllaney), in satin black. Brassed black (none left) or antique brass could look nice, but my V2 has unblemished paint, and they would look out of place on it. It takes E39 filters, but Omnar say no vignetting occurs with Leica's filters. Edited June 24 by LocalHero1953

I have heard mixed things with that and issues with even official Leica filters. @LocalHero1953
costa43 Posted June 24 Share #16  Posted June 24 @LocalHero1953 I’d also like to know please. The 12504 gets in the way of the aperture dial a little too much for my liking but I use it for the filter. This might be an option to consider, pricey for what it is but worth it for me if it does the job without vignette.
NAvalanche Posted July 24 Share #17  Posted July 24 Ive been researching options too and just got the new released hood with filter ring from Squarehood. Havent tested yet so I dont know about vignetting or how the handling is, but it might be a good option.

I think it will work well, they mentioned that they provide a suitable filter as they have found some filters can cause vignetting so it’s definitely something they have tested for. A solid company it seems. I might also order one once I’ve read a little feedback.
NAvalanche Posted July 24 Share #20  Posted July 24 As I shoot film it will take some time before my evaluation.  Yes, its delivered with a UV filter and you dont have to use the hood. Seems like a solid product.
