Hello friends:  I got my Q3 just last week and I noticed the camera makes a soft grinding noise when the setting is in AFc and the shutter button is half pressed to get focus.  It does not do that when I use AFs. Is this normal? The firmware was recently upgraded to 2.0.5

Yes, it's normal. The lens is continuously focussed in AFc mode. What you are hearing are the motors in the lens.

Thank you!  I thought this was a bit interesting since my Sony a7m3, a7R5, and the a7CR conduct their AFc focussing without any discernable sounds ... LOL

In general, it's probably best that you don't compare the latest Sony AF with your Q3 :) . The Q3 produces fantastic images and is a delight to use, but the AF is at least two generations behind the latest Sony's.

I agree completely!  Two entirely different camera companies.  🙂
