jlm Posted August 26, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) have had the camera for two years and I just started getting green and purple banding on the LCD and in the images; sometimes horizontal lines flickering if the light value is low. genaral color balance seems to be off as well. changing WB to non-auto or image quality to less (still jpg) has no effect on the problem. any ideas? Advertisement Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Hi jlm, Take a look here color banding D2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
adan Posted August 26, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 26, 2006 Sounds like it needs to go to Leica for service - CCDs can go bad, or it may just be something coming loose elsewhere in the circuitry. "Service" will likely mean a replacement camera for about $300 U.S. (if you're in the U.S.) - at least that's what I got when I dropped mine and knocked something loose in the lens. Although perhaps not - Leica MAY be able to actually replace the CCD in your camera and send it back to you.
brucek Posted August 27, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 27, 2006 John: If I recall correctly some Digilux 2 cameras were recalled because of problems with their Sony sensors that would show up as problems similar to yours. If true then it may be that your camera could be repaired / replaced under this recall. Good luck! Bruce

geoff Posted August 27, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 27, 2006 If I recall correctly some Digilux 2 cameras were recalled because of problems with their Sony sensors that would show up as problems similar to yours. If true then it may be that your camera could be repaired / replaced under this recall. There was an issue with Sony sensors in serveral non Sony cameras that used them. However, the sensor in the Digilux 2 is made by Matsushita.

I have similar problem for a week. It happened suddenly, I didn't dropp the camera nor get wet. I was shocked when I saw vertical blurring lines in LCD. I have spent so much money for a digital camera (but it's Leica!!) three years ago, and now frustration. I need help...
jlm Posted September 8, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted September 8, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) they didn't describe the cause yet, but Leica/NJ is going to fix it under warranty.
MrEd Posted September 8, 2006 Share #8 Posted September 8, 2006 Hi John, I'm glad to hear that Leica NJ will take care of your problem. Retail price on this camera requires the company to take care of its customers the way the have, at least in NJ. For some $1,600.00 might not be much, but for some it is a hefty sum. Hope to see your pictures after you get it back. Regards, Ed. .
gdoell Posted September 9, 2006 Share #9 Posted September 9, 2006 I have a similar problem with my Panasonic LC1 which I bought in China two years ago (I live there, therefore this was my first choice. It had original Panasonic warranty). Since the warranty is over, Panasonic refused to repair it under warranty. Repair cost was quoted to be some 435 Euro in Germany. I am wondering whether I should get it repaired if this is really a common problem. How long will a replacement sensor last?
