I need to send my 35mm APO-Summicron-SL in for service. There is a mark on the inside of the front element. I called Leica NJ and they are quoting 5 months to service the lens. I read somewhere here that Leica was offering to replace the lens for a nominal fee. If this is correct, is this being offered by Germany?

When I had issues with my 21 APO, Leica NJ quoted a 6 month timeframe for service. I was told that all APO lenses go to Germany because Leica NJ doesn’t have the capabilities to repair the APOs. Since my lens was new and just within the 60 day return window I contacted Leica Store SF (where I purchased the lens new) and they were able to replace the lens for me. I think I was out of a lens for about 4 weeks until my brand new replacement arrived. Not sure if this is helpful or not but that’s my limited experience with servicing an APO SL lens.

Good luck.

I have had two issues with my 75 APO that required it to go back to Germany for repair. Both times it was gone for months. The second time I asked for a new one as I had lost confidence in its reliability. This was declined although it was out of warranty when it broke the second time. If they would have offered me a replacement for a nominal fee I would have jumped at it.

Egrossman,   The swapping of SL lenses that go for repair appears to be either a whim or some other policy.  I had my out of warranty, yet mint SL 90-280 go off to Wetzlar for focus repair.  I was initially told by Wetzlar it would be a 4 month wait.  A few days later, I got an email from Wetzlar offering me a new SL 90-280 for a nominal fee.  I took the offer and received a new SL 90-280 two weeks later.  Others who send their gear in, wait 4+ months.  Yet, most report their lens returns in like new condition.  Why this is so, I do not know.  There is a big backlog of repairs at Leica for all types of cameras and lenses.  I suggest you send the lens in for repair and take your chances.  You might be lucky and get it swapped out.  If you do, then go buy a Powerball ticket because luck might be on your side.   r/  Mark
