M5era Posted August 9, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted August 9, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey all, I was wondering whether the R6.2, which has a somewhat different shutter system than the R6 for example, releases the shutter more instantaneous than previous R cameras. I am a big fan of the R lenses but that was always something that I found irritating compared to other SLR Systems or the Ms. If anyone has used the R6.2 and any previous R camera I'd be super happy to hear your insight. Â Thanks in advance, Â Marc

Ketilbl Posted August 9, 2024 Share #2  Posted August 9, 2024 (edited) It’s the exact same shutter and release mechanism, no difference. As in all SLRs, the shutter is released by the mirror when it reaches the top position. What is unique to the R4-7 line (and Minolta XD) is an air damper momentarily slows down the mirror at the beginning to allow for a closed aperture meter reading. Although the pause is useless on the R6, they still kept it. This air damper can get dirty and slow the mirror too much, sometimes even stopping the mirror completely. It’s a 15 minute job for a repair technician to fix this issue. Edited August 9, 2024 by Ketilbl
