Digilux 2

I enjoy my D2 camera for its responsive lense. I just wanna know if there are any plans to create a newer version with a proper raw buffer and a chip that delivers less noise and higher iso's and a better viewfinder?.

I know Panasonic have launched their first DSLR, the DMC L1 which address some of these issues, but not being able to prepare the lense before the camera is switched on is giving with one hand and taking away with the other.

Otherwise I love the D2.

Nothing official, or even unofficial, on a direct descendent (fixed lens) to the Digilux 2.

I have been told, reliably, that this Sept. 15/PhotoKina will be THE biggest product introduction that Leica has ever done in terms of individual new products - bigger even than 1954 (M3 plus the 'new' M-mount lenses) or 1964 (Leicaflex and the R-mount lens line). Even things the speculations and/or leaks here and on the other forums (RFF, Photo.net) have not covered.

"Better than I ever dreamed" was one evaluation of what's coming.

But all I've heard on a successor to the D2 per se (from Leica and other sources) is very mixed signals - "No replacement - it was a stop-gap for the digital M" - "Well, perhaps" - "The Leica version of the L1 will be the D3" - "Five new digital cameras this fall [which might imply a D3 separate from the 4/3rds camera: C-lux2, D-lux3, M8, D1 4/3rds/lenses....and number 5....??]"

So I guess my reply is mixed, also. 21 days...

It's good to hear that Leica will have a major presence at Photokina and launch some new products.

I hope a Digilux 3 is on the agenda. My Digilux 2 has been with Leica since mid-May for warranty repair. It seems they have difficulty sourcing circuit boards and sensors.

The Panasonic DMC-L1 is a progression of the Digilux 2 concept but I hope not a replacement. The beauty of the Digilux 2 as a non-DSLR is the silent shutter. It is very unobtrusive and allows you to take candid pictures. It is also smaller and easier to pack away than the L1.

The Digilux 2 is the one camera that I missed. I got the 20D instead at that time.Since then I have often wished for the Digilux 2. I did pick up the D-Lux 2 and have often enjoyed it. It produces very good Raw images, as good as the 20D.

A few hours ago I actually did a search for the Digilux 2 but could not find it.

The M8 sounds good. A Digilux 3 sound good to me also. What kept me back from purchasing the Digilux 2 was the lack of an optical viewfinder. The D-Lux 2 has no viewfinder at all and I think I need to strap on a 28mm Voightlander, because I really need one.
