Hi folks!

I wonder what happens when I attach the newest version (11728) of the 50 Summilux to any M10 camera?

Would the 6 bit coding recognize this newer lense (if I jump in the menue and try to find lenses manually - there is no Summilux Version listed).

Does everything (close focus when using Visoflex or LV) work as well?

Or is this lense specifically designed for M11 types?

Cheers from Austria,

Lukas

The 6-bit code for the close focus Summilux 50 and the former version (regular Summilux 50 asph.) is the same, so no problems here. And yes, close focus using Visoflex or LV will work just fine.

But the 6bit coding wont work since the "older" M10 P7R doesn't know this lens

The original Summilux 50 asph. is much older than the M10 P, so your camera should definitely know and detect that lens (if auto detect is ON). Try updating your camera to the latest firmware.

Do I have to type in the former version when selecting lense profile?

Yes, alternatively you may manually select the Summilux 50 asph. (there is just one) from the list of lenses shown in the menu (there should be a list of lenses in your camera menu from which you can select the desired lens). The menu may show the Leica code number only, and the Leica code number for that lens is 11891 (black version, chrome may have a different number, but since both are the same optically, 11891 will do).

thanks mate but what I originally meant: My M10P does know the version 11891 - as the lense came out years ago. What happens when I mount the newer version 11728? The camera wont detect this one right? Arent there some drwabacks then when the camera wont detect version 11728?

Regards!

The 6 bit code is not the same as the Leica code number. Different versions of the same lens often have the same 6 bit code. In this case 11891 and 11728 have the same 6 bit code, so both will be recognised without problems both on new and old digital M cameras.

That is good (and is what I thought).

The new version will be detected as "Summilux 50 asph.", just like the old version would be detected.

Well, as explained above, your camera WILL detect the lens. The optical construction of 11891 and 11728 is identical, so there will be no drawbacks at all.
