Digilux 2, Sensor and Warranty Question

I have read the Leica press release about the extended warranty for sensor replacement on the Digilux 2. I am selling my D2 and potential buyers are asking about the sensor. I have the following questions:

  1. How can i tell if my camera has the "new" sensor installed?

  2. Can a 2nd owner, in the event of a sensor failure, send the camera into Leica for free repair (even if they are not the original, registered owner)? ;)

  3. Can I send in the camera to have the sensor upgraded if it still works fine? (to assure potential buyers that they won't be stuck with a defective sensor repair).

Thanks for any help with this issue.

1 You can only tell if there is no problem. What is your D2's serial number?

2 AFAIK Leica will repair regardless of warranty or reselled camera. No clue about until when though...

3 No. Only if the sensor is gone.

There is no way to tell if you've had a new sensor installed, unless you have the work order paperwork.

I bought my own D2 used and when the sensor failed, had it repaired for free. Leica did want to see a copy of my receipt though.

They only fix broken sensors.

I 2nd Mark's statements (except they did not need the receipt - but maybe that's just UK).

The only way around IMO is to assure prospective owners of Leica's statement, include a copy of the "extended guarantee", and as much paperwork as you have .
