Le Chef Posted June 23, 2024 Share #3 Posted June 23, 2024 There have been at least two other threads on this topic. They are worth searching for and reading so you get more context.
RoelVDM Posted July 16, 2024 Share #4 Posted July 16, 2024 Q3, firmware 2.0.3 AE-L works on function button 2 (FN2) conform user manual. AF-L does not work properly on FN2: after pressing shutter button Q3 immediately refocus instead off AF-Lock for one shot. Only by long push FN2 and (re)programming/assigning AF-L on FN2 then AF-L function is working properly. Anybody else with same finding? Tip, solution? Le Chef Posted July 16, 2024 Share #5 Posted July 16, 2024 Shoot manual focus, then you’re in control.
Camaro5 Posted September 12, 2024 Share #6 Posted September 12, 2024 So you can't for example spot meter in one place in the frame, press AE-L to lock exposure, and then move the little cross to another spot to auto-focus?

You can if you hold the shutter button half down, or set the exposure to manual, both of which are easy to do.
Camaro5 Posted September 12, 2024 Share #8 Posted September 12, 2024 Thanks. I watched a video last night that explained it. All the years I've been shooting I never used this feature before, but I can see where it would be helpful. The way it was explained was to find the focal point on the subject, then just move the camera until the exposure is correct, then set the AE-L. Recompose and shoot. We are going to Sedona AZ in a few weeks and there is chapel there I want to shoot. The main subject (the cross) is dark but there are large bright windows behind it. It's always been difficult to expose correctly, but I'll try using the AE-L and see what happens.
