mltv Posted June 20, 2024 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) So... I am a big fan of M8. Classic M8, not the M8.2. The reason for such a choice is an ability of synchronising a flash up to 1/250 vs 1/180 on all other cameras. It is a huge deal for daylight street shooting with a flash. I am relatively new to the system as a bought my first Leica - M8 - just a bit more than a year ago. It was a silver chrome version and after a while I realized that a like black cameras a bit more. So I started monitoring for a good offer of a black M8 to buy when I came across a Black Painted M8 several days ago. I was confused as i knew that classic M8 was not produced in this version, but I bought it on the next day for ~1600$ US. Welcome, dear visitor! For an unknown reason, it came with a chrome base plate. Also frame lever looks a bit odd and feels loose compared to other Leicas I have. Paint itself looks completely the same as my M9 which is black paint, including shutter dial and on/off lever. Could anyone tell me something about what I have recently bought? While searching through the web I found an absolute zero of images of Black Painted M8s. The only pictures I saw were M8 Panda Editions, but mine has black furniture. I found some posts on this forum of people claiming that there were from 100 to 500 black painted M8s produces, but it feels a bit odd to me. There are only 275 White M8s produces, but there are a lot of photos of them and they can be found easily on Ebay along with common presence on Leitz Auctions. And if a comparable amout of black paint versions were produced, where are they...? I found not even the photos... Also I thought of it as a simply repainted version, but again - there have to be a lot more photos and mentions of such repaints in my opinion. So I am struggling with identification of this camera and I will be really grateful for any suggestions. Also sorry for my English and possibly odd speech patterns as it is not my native language. But I tried my best 😶🌫️
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Borna Posted July 5, 2024 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2024 Hey, cool camera. Probably a al carte M8, which seems unusual, although I am not sure if the BP M8 gives any extra value, but that could be just me thinking that.
69xchange Posted July 6, 2024 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2024 Most likely sent back to Leica for custom work. You can tell that the leatherette is Leica’s newer style too where as your M9 has the old /original leatherette.
