Peter De Laet Posted June 17, 2024 Share #1  Posted June 17, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear all, I suspect I am the odd one out here as I am not a camera but rather a binocular collector. As such my interest doesn't concern Leica cameras but rather Leitz binoculars. I am told that the Leica company holds a rather rich archive in Wetzlar, but to my knowledge it isn't accessible. Would anyone be able to shed some light on this subject? With kind regards, Peter.

I would e-mail them and ask what you want to know. A binocular enquiry will probably give them some light relief from camera based stuff! You may know this already, but the well respected Dennis Laney's "Leica Collector's Guide"covers Sport Optics/Binoculars from 1911, pre-dating the first cameras. Good luck
Anbaric Posted June 20, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted June 20, 2024 While a few people on the forum with particular interests have had direct access to some of the material in the archive, many more of us have had basic queries answered about our cameras (usually original delivery date and destination) by emailing info@leica-camera.com with the serial number. I don't know if they have similar ready access to information about binoculars (they generally don't have it about lenses) but it can't hurt to ask.

alan mcfall Posted June 20, 2024 Share #7  Posted June 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I also collect Leitz binoculars, and have some serial numbers and dates. We can communicate via PM, if interested. Not just Leitz and primarily military, the Hans Seeger book has lots of details. Another reference is the "Billing's" collection of binoculars book for all binoculars, I have it somewhere and will send info if I can find it. You may be able to Google it and see if it is available.  Welcome, dear visitor! Peter De Laet Posted June 25, 2024 Author Share #8  Posted June 25, 2024 Dear Alan, Thank you very much for your suggestion. As a matter a fact I am co-author to Hans Seeger's 4th book and Hans has written the preface to my first publication (The Eye of the Flak | 10x80 | Flakglas | German binoculars | Belgium). Leitz was one of the companies producing the D.F. 10 x 80, hence my interest in the (unaccessible) Leitz archives . With best regards, Peter.
