So I purchased one used from MPB and it seems the focus is little off.
I tested with my other 50mm lens which is Summilux and is just fine.
It aligns perfectly in VF when focusing and the picture comes out as it should.

But this APO Summicron that I just bought used doesn't focus even with perfect align in VF
It also wobbles in aperture ring part in very annoying level (makes sound too) while my other M lenses don't.

So, I shoot with VF align to be little bit off and guess what, the picture came out laser sharp....

Is there any way for me to manually adjust these lenses? or should I contact Leica since it is covered under warranty?

I personally prefer fixing it myself but just asking if there is anyway for us users to calibrate these MF Lenses

Thanks

The lens is defective. Return it. Always buy these things in person at an authorized dealer. The only thing leica can do is send it off to service. Which is what the seller should've done.

UPDATE* I did confirm that the focus is off by shooting hundreds of pictures with different lenses on same objects in various distances.

That wobbling from aperture group might be the reason why the focus was off, so I used paper clip that is thin enough to get in behind the lens and guess what, I tightened the aperture group and no more wobbling and it is not pin point focused!

I didn't really want to return it since I paid less than $5K with tax for APO Summicron 50mm f/2 lol
that is like half the price

I guess a little work got the job done!

go to HK, buy a brand new one with leica warranty for 5K.

$5k for a used one is really not a good deal.

dude, you are living in a completely different world.

First of all, there is no leica knock-off. Secondly, Hongkong is known for off-shore Leica equipments. I have 2 m-bodies and 3 m lenses bought there, all legit and registered on leica's website.

I understand you are being defensive because you were ripped off. MPB is known for overpriced inferior quality leica lenses/bodies.

It's ok as long as you are happy.

ManSter420,   Your OP thread question asked if you can fixed your 50 Apo Summicron Asph.  I most highly recommend you immediately return the lens and either get a replacement or a refund from MBP.  Do not delay on doing this return either.  You have a window wtih them make a return/exchange/refund.  Most important, the 50 Apo Cron is one of the most precision built, handmade Leica M lenses.  In fact, there is only 1 Leica technician who has the skill and steady hands to assemble the optics for this lens. She quite a legend at Leica from what I understand as well.  I suspect the other M lens is the 35 Apo Cron.  Both have tolerances that are nothing short of incredible for assembly.  I wouldn't ever think on tampering with the either lens due to the tolerances involved and it would immediately void any warranty.

The easiest and best route for your M lenses is a fast return to MPB.  Call them and get a authorization from them if needed.  I would also email them, keep both a cc record of your email and lens serial number just incase the firm does a round trip on you.  It does happen.  I know of 3 others who bought from that firm and all had defective lenses.  Keep in mind dealers do not have the time or equipment in many cases to test used lenses for optical standards.  If your lens is factory new, the dealers assume the lens is within spec, even though that might not be the case.  This is why one should buy from a highly reputable dealer who has a written return policy and guarantee.

I’m currently in Hong Kong and can confirm that you can easily find the lens brand new for about $5500 USD from reputable dealers with 2 year Leica warranty.

MPB is generally reliable but I find their grading and pricing of Leica gear to be quite hit and miss. Of course, it’s up to your own level of comfort but I would return the lens before attempting a DIY fix.
