Hello. A while back I had issues with a an external optical viewfinder falling out. Guy at camera store recommended I use tape to make it take up room in the hotshoe mount, and not fall out. I did, but when I stopped using the finder, and put in the hotshoe cover, it fell out because the springs were pushed down.

Could anyone here please take a picture of their M11 hotshoe springs so I can see how the should be positioned? Will try to fix myself.

New plastic M10 cover (M11 was out ot stock, but same mount) cost 300 norwegian kroner. Thats a good margin, I guess.

Oh you had exactly the same experience as me.

If you look closely at the inside of your camera's hot shoe, there will be a brass plate like a plate spring at both ends of the shoe.

This is a problem caused by the reduction of tension in the area marked in red.

The solution is to restore the tension with something like tweezers (Of course, it can also be solved at the service center.)

I also experienced it only 2 months ago, so I hope it helps.(Please understand that I used a translator because I'm a non-English speaker.)

Yes, I have adjusted slightly, but not quite there yet. Keeps sliding out. Was just wondering the exact profile of the spring in normal position. Looks like its lower than mine is now. Hm. Thanks anyways!

Just pry them up and out. Be aggressive about it. Hold the end down with one tool and then pry up in the middle of the spring. My hotshoe springs got flattened by a thumb grip and wouldn't trigger a flash.

I bought some non-marring tools from Amazon that worked great.

Alright, I had some tools from iFixit that are similar to these. Great, for now :)

Was that the original thumbgrip? Was considering it, but if it falls off after a little while of use, I’m not that interested!

It was the Match Tactical. It doesn't fall out, but it loosened the springs to the point where it wouldn't trigger a flash.

I went to the stick on Thumbie on eBay and it works great.

I had the same experience with a leica thumb grip. Not quite as bad but it seems to be a design flaw or maybe they never really tighten after being bent. My SF60 flops around so much it is extremely alarming.

Yes, that is the issue. Can’t really use the hotshoe. Leica sent parts to my local Leica store, and they replaced the parts in 5 minutes. I don’t feel like using the hotshoe now as I know what will happen. I lost a zeiss external viewfinder that fell off the hotshoe, so a bit disappointed with the hotshoe. Really liked that zeiss viewfinder.

I prised mine up gently with a jewllers screwdriver and then put a couple of pieces of Washi Black paper Tape on the top side of the Leica Thumb Grip edges. Tight as hell now and doesn't wobble. I used Washi Tape on my Leica Q for years from day one and only sold the camera 2 months ago and it peeled right off and never left any residue or noticeable fading of the black on the camera.

My M11 came loose which is disappointing. The first hotshoe cover and viewfinders I tried after getting the camera new, slide out. I'm currently using a piece of tape under my voigtlander viewfinder.
Thanks for the tips on adjusting this spring. This and the woeful plastic cover feel like shortcuts.

It's been a while since I've posted on this thread, so I'm adding a simple way to adjust it at home.

1. Loosen the screw in the center of the hot shoe with a PH000 driver.

2. Insert the tweezers into the hole above the screw hole and pull the spring out.

3. Adjust the separated spring.

4. Assemble in reverse order.

I've got mine on order.  Many thanks for such a simple and obvious solution. I've been using toothpicks to keep my gear attached...

I don't suppose you know what the replacement part number is for an M11 flash shoe spring...?

So the screw is just loosened?

그래서 나사가 그냥 풀린 거야?

The screw is the element that fixes the spring(brass plate).

The spring is made of brass, so if you continue to attach the thumb grip or external viewfinder to the hot shoe, the spring may not be restored to its original state after disconnecting it.
