CaymanS Posted May 23, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted May 23, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know how to switch off the BP-SCL4 battery warning when you have inserted now of these batteries? There is no need to be constantly reminded that using this battery reduces the functions available in the SL3 and every time the camera is in stand-by mode, to save battery power, it annoyingly slows down activation/start up each time if you need to react to a situation quickly and therefore causes shots to be missed. I own four of the BP-SCL4, from having previously owned and SL and SL2, and they are really useful as a BP-SCL6 doesn't last for a full day's shooting. TOM CADWALADER Posted September 1, 2024 Share #3  Posted September 1, 2024 I just purchased a new BP-SCL 6 battery.  On the first start up  a message came on the screen saying it was the L4 battery and that some features would not be available.  The battery and the box it came in clearly says it's a BP-SCL6 and 7.2 v 16 Wh.  I popped the battery out, put the original in a restarted the camera.  Everything was fine. Swapped the new battery back  in and restarted.  Now there is no message.  I checked that 8K video was available to build my confidence a little. I think I will use the new battery exclusively for a week or so to be sure I'm OK.

The warning appearing even for a new SCL6 can happen if the battery isn't properly activated. New batteries need to be charged to full, once, before using them in the camera. I found leaving a new battery in the charger for a few hours even after the third dot (full charge) appears fixed this. I only experienced this once when I didn't activate a new SCL6 in the Q3. So  the full charging cycle is what does the activation ?  Thank you for sharing this info.
summarity Posted September 2, 2024 Share #6 Â Posted September 2, 2024 Yes, it's mentioned in the manual on page 38 "CHARGING VIA USB": Quote For safety reasons, the battery is only minimally charged on delivery. The battery must be activated with an initial charge before first use. Â
