According to David Farkas (Owner Leica Store Miami) on Red Dot Forum YouTube channel and the Red Dot Forum Camera Talk: Leica SL3 - A First Look video, the SL3 camera has built in charge protection and limits power down to 27W if you charge the camera with a more powerful charger. Advertisement Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Hi LBJ2, Take a look here Which is better: power to DC-SCL6 dummy battery or to USB-C port?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hellobrandonscott Posted January 14 Share #22 Posted January 14 (edited) Some follow up having used the dummy battery a lot: If you lose power or unlplug the camera, it immediately shuts off when using the dummy battery, obviously. If the same thing happens with a battery and using the USB port, the camera keeps recording because you're using the battery at that point. Upside to the dummy battery though is that it's lighter and IMO a cleaner, safer option, and you're not using up battery life. I'll keep using the dummy battery, but just know that if you're recording in unstable electrical environments, maybe it's a better idea to use a battery + USB port.
