o2mpx Posted May 19, 2024 Author Share #21  Posted May 19, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) My guess is if the M was my main camera, the new features on the M11 might be reasons to upgrade. For now, no plans to upgrade to M11 from current M10-R and lose the nostalgic removable bottom plate. Using the XD2 and SL2 more often than the M is mainly driven by EVF, IBIS and age (plus the color and resolution of the former).

kkcsm Posted May 19, 2024 Share #22  Posted May 19, 2024 I’m still on M10, not intending to upgrade, but the M11 bottom plate seems like a definite advantage.  I’ve only been using M cameras since M9 but I always thought it odd to retain the removable bottom plate which is functional on film cameras but sub-optimal on digital. Not a big thing, but definitely the M11 seems better for tripod users. I think…. Looking at images of the bottom, the tripod screw is pretty close to the latch.  Does a mounting plate block the release?
TealWayFilms Posted May 20, 2024 Share #23 Â Posted May 20, 2024 Leica M user since the 1990s, especially since my focus is on travel photography. I played around with the early Sony mirrorless cameras, but when Leica came out with the SL 601, I jumped as all my M lenses from the 1950s to the present worked on that body. Currently I have an M10 and SL2-S as my main cameras and they go on every trip. I recently returned from Sardinia and both were used regularly. The M with a 35mm is still the small, unobtrusive camera that I can take anywhere. I shoot at a reasonable aperture and don't worry about the inaccuracy of the rangefinder. Taking photographs of people in rural locations is facilitated by the small, non-threatening and retro appearance of the M10. I also have the SL APO 35, 75 and 24-90 on the SL2-S that are wonderful image producers. Both primes work amazingly wide open and I find the focusing of the camera to be more than adequate. Both bodies are 24 Mpx which suits my needs especially with the ability for software upresolution. I find the low light capabilities of the SL2-S to be wonderful.
