Almizilero Posted May 10, 2024 Share #1 Posted May 10, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Once more, I used a trip to dabble in “real” street photography, as oposed to the street portraits I usually take at home. Somehow I still feel it's easier to do it abroad. Maybe it's just something that's stuck in my head, but I always feel people abroad are less concious of photographers than they are here in Germany. So, here are some results. If there is a theme to it, in the most cases it would be colours. Something stands out, something matches in a strange way. And people looking at their phones. Probably because they're distracted and easier to shoot unawares. I'll put in a little comment why I think it's an shot worth showing and I'd be happy to get some remarks whether you think I got it right or if it's a shot that you would have deleted. I'm still very much a beginner on the streets, so don't hold back, constructive criticism is always welcome! It's a couple of images, I'll just post them in the order I took them. All images with M10 and Elmarit 28/2.8 ASPH, Summilux 50/1.4 V2 or Summarit 75/2.4 50mm @ F/1.4: I really like this scene, it's busy and has stuff to discover in the background. But there are also the clear protagonists and you can wonder what's going on with them. They're having coffee on a sunnxy day, but they don't look happy and she seems to be rather bored on her phone. Extra point for puttting it on his plate. Welcome, dear visitor! Was even about to delete it, but I kinda like how her icecream is the same colour as the dress she is looking at. 50 @ F/5.6: This one is all about the yellows. I like how the colour of here jumper is repeated in so many places all over the picture. 50 @ F/1.4: I found the scene of changing shoes in public quite fun. Couldn't wait to get home to show of the new purchase. Also, I really like how the refections kinda put them in the spotlight. Advertisement Posted May 10, 2024 Posted May 10, 2024 Hi Almizilero, Take a look here Streets of Stockholm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Almizilero Posted May 10, 2024 Author Share #2 Posted May 10, 2024 50 @ F/1.4: Pastel colours all around. It would have been great to have some blossoms on the tree in the background, but what drew my eye was how well the ballons fit with her jacket. Once more, you wonder what the story is here. Where is she going, what's the occasion? Sadly, it's once more a person on her phone, but at least it has a pink case. Welcome, dear visitor! She looked really interesting and was very immersed in her writing. But it turned out as a kinda natural orange and teal colour sheme. 50 @ F/1.4: Not sure about this one, but these two just stood out to me. A really warm and sunny day, everthing looks just bright and white-ish, and there they were in their almost matching, shiny deep green jackets, like they didn't belong in the scene at all. 75 @ F/4: Just a somewhat inense scene that could hold many different stories. I also like how they are framed by the yellow elements.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! 75 @ F2.4: This one was all about the girl. Almizilero Posted May 10, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted May 10, 2024 28 @ F/8: Time for some black and white. This scene just works better in monochrome. This was basically just a shot of the busy square, until the guy with his skateboard walked into the frame. With the added bonus that he held all his stuff perfectly in line with the ground design. I really like the play of the light, but I wanted someone in the frame. If only I waited a millisecond longer, she might have been perfectly in the spotlight. 75 @ F/2.4: OK, this is a difficult one. I really don't want to shoot people just to make fun of them. But these intense colours among the pastel background of the cherry blossoms in combination with the bag he's holding ... I couldn't resist. What do you think, is it interesting or just nasty?
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! 50 @ F/2: This is one of the images where I used the waiting method. Almizilero Posted May 10, 2024 Author Share #4 Posted May 10, 2024 50 @ F/1.4: Another shot of the cherry blossoms. I wanted to get the colour of the jacket in combination with the trees, and got that lovely laugh as a bonus. Welcome, dear visitor! Here, I actually wanted someone with their phone in the shot for obvious reasons. Took surprisingly long. 50 @ F/1.4: I just think the person and the statue compliment each other quite well. 28 @ F/8: And, finally the classic shot of the Stockholm tunnelbana. I'm usually not good at lining these kinds of shots up symmetrically, but it worked out nicely here. If only I wouldn't have cut off the feet of the person in the foreground ...
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! 28 @ F/4: Another picture where I hung around at the spot for some time. war Posted May 11, 2024 Share #5 Posted May 11, 2024 First, I appreciate that this was an important exercise for you and I thank you for posting. I personally like to see an indication of the location, the camera/lens and a title (even a catchy one to create interest). But when I look at the photos in these threads I like to make my own assessments of the colors, compositions the stories and the intentions of the photographer. I couldn't help read your narratives before looking at each of the photos, I should not have, so I was influenced sometimes positively and some times not. Now I'm going to put these aside and come back to them a bit later and hopefully I'll see them with a fresh eye. regards, wally

I guess you're right, maybe with Street Photography, it's better to not impress your story on the viewer. This was mostly an exercise in overcoming my fears for me. And I wanted to see if people think I got the shot I was going for right (and whether I even have some keepers). Hence the picture dump. Maybe it's just a bit much and I should have shown my favourites individually with only a title, just as you said.
war Posted May 14, 2024 Share #7 Posted May 14, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I like the color shot of the shoe changing and skateboarder shot and the last three black and whites. I think noteworthy is the girl walking past the Rikstelefon sign. The angle of the sign structure and her legs and the spot of light on the back of her hair, all good. I certainly don't agree that you made a "picture dump", post as many as you like to tell a story or get reactions. I sure wish others would comment on your pics, I know you would get some good feedback, lot's of good photographers here. "

Can't figure out why you didn't get any other comments, especially because you asked for opinions. Try posting individual photos, that might get more interest.
