Artichoke Posted January 1, 2008 Share #3 Posted January 1, 2008 and they are lovely orchids photographed with vibrant color I think the framing could be better for both the first has part of the lower flowers cut off as well as two of the upper leaves which is less important ...a slight tilt (about 5 degrees) of your lens to the left would have helped this the second is a bit too far back and includes the pot in which the orchid was grown which detracts ...I suspect you were at the limit of near focus for your lens with this & macros using an M are limited unless using a Viso or the 90 macro Elmar with adapter goggles that said these are lovely orchids and a joy to see Vietnam & the rest of Indochina are the home of many species and blessed with some outstanding growers ...you look like you had a fabulous time in Da Lat
Doc Henry Posted January 1, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted January 1, 2008 Arthur Thanks for your comment You are right about framing and lens - For framing I let all my lens especially my elmarit 90mm macro in France (too heavy luggage) I was in Vietnam for a children health mission on july 2007 and secondly I don't have a scanner when I was posted these pictures in the Leica Forum - You are right about Vietnam and Indochina (with Laos and Cambodia) I have family in Vietnam and I like the kindness of the people

Artichoke Posted January 2, 2008 Share #10 Posted January 2, 2008 Arthur It's not an orchid but few years ago in Vietnam I have taken this lotus flower with the Elmarit 90 macro. What is your opinion ? you captured different stages of the flowers opening which I always find fascinating the colors are a bit muted for my taste (I suspect you were not shooting Velvia) but I think this a very fine floral ...gorgeous subject and good composition despite your clipping a petal of the flower at the extreme left a major disadvantage of film is that you cannot chimp with it
psquared Posted January 2, 2008 Share #11 Posted January 2, 2008 Henri, I like all three. The orchid pictures have vibrant colors and the lighting is excellent on the lotus picture. Peter
Doc Henry Posted January 2, 2008 Author Share #12 Posted January 2, 2008 " you captured different stages of the flowers opening which I always find fascinating the colors are a bit muted for my taste (I suspect you were not shooting Velvia) but I think this a very fine floral ...gorgeous subject and good composition despite your clipping a petal of the flower at the extreme left a major disadvantage of film is that you cannot chimp with it" Thank you Peter for your compliment Arthur, thanks for your kind comment You are right about the lotus flower it's not Velvia but a Fujichrome I forget the Asa but I remember that I always took smaller asa because I know that in Vietnam (VN) it's much sunny. Recently in Dalat (VN) I have Fuji film too but no slide. For the film I agree with you and I wait for Photokina 2008 to buy may be a R10 digital reflex....
