While live chatting with B&H they indicated where you can use NON 4/3 stadard lenses on the Digilux 3 as long as they are Olympus lenses and you purchase/use an adaptor ring.

Additionally, they will NOT work on autofocus which is fine with me.

I am trying to locate and buy a rectilinear ultra wide angle lens say wider than 11 MM to use on my D-3 and not willing to pay the $1600 bucks for the 7-14.

any suggestions greatly appreciated. also websites for more info since i lost the live chat transcript.

Hank,

I have the L1 'sister' body (and the very nice kit zoom) and have purchased the OM to 4/3 adapter from Fotodiox:

http://www.fotodiox.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=4135

It seems perfectly serviceable and is cheaper than the official Olympus product. I must also say I was pleased with the speed of delivery to the UK.

I got it mostly to see if the 50/1.8 OM lens we have might be occasionally useful for portraiture -- and I think it indeed has a place.

Sorry, can't help with the wide-angle side of things (our widest OM lens is a 24 which becomes a standard lens, but of inferior aperture to the kit zoom) so I'll be very interested to follow this thread and see what others turn up...

You can get adapters for some other lens families too, such as the famous Leica R. I nearly bought the corresponding adapter at the same time 'just in case' I might stumble on a useful R lens.

On the Olympus 4/3 lens roadmap there is shown a 'standard grade' (i.e. low cost) ultra-wide zoom perhaps a 8-16mm. Most likely to be launched at PMA at the end of January.

Hi Hank,

As mentioned, there are many adapters for the 4/3rds mount, so you have some choices. The lenses have to have an aperture ring, unlike Minolta Maxxum, Canon EF and some recent Nikon lenses.

Frankly, I have never heard of a rectilinear UWA as wide as or wider than 11mm. If there is one, I bet it costs more than the 7-14mm. There is a CV 12mm made in Nikon and maybe Pentax mounts. Check Camera Quest for 4/3rds adapters and the CV-SLR lenses.

Hi Hank,

If you are going the fisheye route, the Oly 8mm ZD at $670. might be a better choice. The 10.5mm isn't a big enough difference from my Oly 11-22mm ZD to get me interested. I can't find a price on the Nikor, but when it was introduced it was about $1100. I suspect it will fit with the Nikon>4/3rds adapter.

Bob

i need a rectilinear fish eye since i shoot stills for virtual tours. i don't think the Oly 8mm will work unless i corrrect 16 stills for each and every tour i shoot. your thoughts on the subject appreciated. this is a learning lesson in progress!!!:)

NOT SO!

the Zukio 7-14 is a rectilinear fisheye technically. it is the only ulra wide angle tht works on the 4/3 system for Leica. i am trying to locate a similar lens for lots less cash with no success. Oly is supposed to coming out with an 8-? rectilinear fisheye sometime this early 2008. i am attending the PMA show in Vegas and will drill them at that time. in the meantime i keep searching.

I'm sure a 'rectilinear fisheye' is a contradiction of terms.
