lebanese blonde Posted April 12, 2024 Share #1 Posted April 12, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there, my wife wants to shoot videos for youtube and is using a Leica Q (1st gen). Filming with the Q sucks since you can‘t control the exposure manually and the camera changes exposure constantly. It seems that the Q2‘s movie mode is way better with manual exposure controls but it is hard to get infos because there are a lot of older posts with older firmwares. Since the Q2 probably won‘t get any more updates: Do you use the Q2 for filming with the latest firmware? Can you manually set ISO and Aperture? How about the AF? Is it usable for a podcast / review setting where you show things into the camera. Does the AF focus from your face to the stuff in the foreground and back on your facetd? I know, any Sony or Canon vlogging-Camera will be better for this but my wife doesn`t want to buy another camera only for filming

Casey Jefferson Posted April 13, 2024 Share #2 Posted April 13, 2024 I use Leica Fotos for controlling the camera, and yes you can set everything manual. The only thing that's lacking is the AF tracking which I just set it to manual focus, and pre focus before I start recording. Apart from not having log profile, the video came out looking great! lebanese blonde Posted April 13, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted April 13, 2024 Thanks for your answer. I‘ve already seen, that the Fotos App lets you set aperture, speed and ISO manually, but it looks like the camera is ignoring the chosen values. I‘ve set the aperture to 1.7 but i can cleary see that the aperture is not wide open and the camera closes it, even if the app says that it should be 1.
Marc B-C Posted April 13, 2024 Share #4 Posted April 13, 2024 Some top YouTubers have reverted to using their iPhones for video presentations. The quality is superb. Perhaps also look at the Insta360 a payout indeed but more suited to the job and very clever when it comes to editing and choosing the angle that suits. Some online videos using that also allow the viewer to change the view position.

If anything if this behaves in macro mode then it's completely normal as macro mode always force to f2.8 even if you set to f1.7.

I think you have used the wrong quote, but re the Q2 in Macro mode, I believe it gives a max aperture of 2.8 but you can close that down to f16 etc.
