Chuck Albertson Posted April 10, 2024 Share #4 Posted April 10, 2024 Yes. Even though the flash dwarfs the camera when I use it in the hot shoe. Much prefer using it off-camera, for aesthetic reasons. The SB-900 puts out a decent amount of light for bouncing in a room.
Anbaric Posted April 10, 2024 Share #5 Posted April 10, 2024 The MP doesn't really have any flash electronics to damage (all it does is mechanically complete a circuit to fire the flash, which will work even without a battery in the camera, and the meter isn't connected to the flash sync). The SB-900 is also a modern flash with a low trigger voltage, probably 6V or less, that won't in itself damage even a modern camera. However, there might conceivably be problems if you use it with an M6-TTL, M7 or digital M, because the extra dedicated flash contacts used by Nikon and Leica happen to line up and either the flash or the camera might receive an unexpected signal it isn't designed to deal with. The MP, of course, doesn't have these extra contacts in its hotshoe, so this won't be an issue.
