Frustrating experience with SL3 and FOTOS app

Was I expecting too much? New camera, new functions, updated software.

the reality is that nothing changes between SL and the Fotos app.

Today I was doing an interior shoot, the first with my SL3, and I wanted to use the FOTOS app as a remote.

What is new?

the camera has faster wifi 6a Mimo, BT5 LE, and USB-C that is "faster"
FotosThe Fotos app for some color profiles, and compatibility with the SL3.

The Good:

Speed has improved in transferring photos to your mobile device. As long as your iPad and iPhone have USB-C or Wifi 6

SL3 is finally able to use any USB-C cable. in the past with the SL2, only a few cables worked with FOTOS, you had to have an Apple cable USB-C 2.0 with AppleMfi. 

Preview has improved. do to better bitrate you can now get a clear image.

GPS tagging over BT works well enough.

The Bad:

Unstable wifi connection. when you actually want to work and capture an image and review it too, the camera slows down and gets confused, often dropping the connection. Using CFe card.
Priew the last photo actually takes you out of shooting mode.
The new images didn't come up on the brows section. there is a refresh option that did nothing. So fost quit the app and reconnect 🤦‍♀️

This is a big one... Why is there only "single image capture" in FOTOS? I have been asking for this forever, a way to select any of the other shooting modes. Any other app does it.
this is my biggest complaint about the app for the last 4 years.
There is a workaround, after you connect the remote camera, change the setting in the camera and it will do other options. Just don't preview the last image, it will reset the parameters you just set to single shooting. 😡

The video remote is terrible, no options, there is a low-quality image, No option to see a LUT when you shoot in l-LOG. just a complete waste of time.
So much using the iPhone on the gimble as a monitor.

In the video, all the settings get reset to AUTO, not to mention you just created profiles to have everything work faster.
The focus field is buggy in video.

Bot iPhone and iPad got security updates, and all the images that you already downloaded and are on the device, no longer show up in FOTOS.

Suggestion
Use the app to GPS tag images and occasional image transfer, that is what it is good for.

 

The only other mobile option for the Leica Camera is Capture One for Mobile.
SL2 and SL3 work fast with any cable, tether, and transfer DNG files in 3-4sec.
It doesn't work over Wifi at this time.
The remote shutter and Live view have been added. you can pick any shutter time or other color setting from the iPad.
In tether mode, you can take 1 photo, apply your adjustments and or color presets/ profiles, and it can be applied on any following images.

the downside it needs a cable, it costs $5.60/month, and it does not do any video.
There are now alternative Video apps to monitor the shot.
