Is purple fringing universally bad on all the 1.2 Noktons, old and new? Is v3-4 of the 35 better, worse, or the same in that regard as v2? Also @Al Brown raises the specter of field curvature that is a new kind of defect to consider. I’m trying to figure out whether a 10 element v2 of the 35/1.2 is better than the 9 element v3-4 in any regard. Apparently it has less vignetting, right? I would say yes, but the Voigtlander 50mm f/1.2 Nokton performs the best in this area, which is not surprising. I have not tried the 35mm f/1.2 Nokton with the 10-element design, so I can't say for sure if axial chromatic aberration is better corrected, but from the samples I have seen online, it does not appear to be. There is no difference between the previous and new versions in this aspect across all three lenses. As I mentioned, it is mostly a cosmetic update. I am curious to see how the upcoming Leica 35mm f/1.2 will perform when it comes to axial CA, but based on what I have seen from their 35mm f/1.4 Lux FLE and 28mm f/1.4 Lux, I am not very optimistic.
