User Profile and Fn have minds of their own, it seems.  Used Q with about 7k shutter clicks.  Everything else works quite well.  Yes, new SD card formatted IN camera and factory reset a few times.  Seems as though these buttons change at night after a few hours of camera being off but sometimes the changes will not take effect even for a few minutes.

Have searched the internet in general and this forum and found some can get them to work properly but some just can not.  German software engineering at its *finest* and just keep doing workarounds or send to Leica in New Jersey for 2 months?

I would check with another read of the instruction manual whether you actually have saved your profile and given it a slot in the list. You should also check to see if the setting of the FN button is “one time only” or whether you have to keep designating it regardless of profile.

Yes, followed the manual and given slot, I have 4 individual slots saved and selected, also going to the sub menu.  And yes, I have to keep selecting the Fn button to what it's supposed to be for that User Profile.  The Fn button selection changes and so will the User Profile buttons selected.  Woke up yesterday and turned camera on selecting User1 "Day" and the level line is missing?!?  Was fine the night before, saved and all that.  Why did it change?!?  ALL User Profiles had a Level Line.  Makes no sense...

Keep pressing the central controller and level should reappear, if you have selected it and saved it to that profile.

Yep, did that before and to no avail.  Went into the settings and found those 4 things "OFF" on that page, Level, Clip, etc.  It's weird.  I'm going to set all 4 of my profiles, select them, then save them and let it ride for a while.  Maybe the camera is "learning" as one commentator said.

Ok, had User1 in there called "DAY" all day today.  Turned camera ON and to DEFAULT, of course.  Selected User1 "DAY" and the Fn went to WHITE BALANCE, Ie NOT what I had selected.  I selected User Profile under Fn and hit save.  What happened when I went back to Fn on User1?  Reverted to WHITE BALANCE.  I just changed and saved it!

I had this happened a few times when I first got the camera.  I wasn't properly saving my choice when I made the selection and exited the selection menu.  I thought I was, but it didn't.  I also had trouble saving the user profile the first few times, but I think I made a mistake when I got out of my selection mode.  See if you can go back to the setting to see if the selection stuck.

Le Chef, you may be correct but I've done it so many times and after 3 factory resets I just follow the prompts all the way through 5 menu pages saving each time including the sub menu at the end as users have pointed out.  Possible I skipped a step but today I'm getting more scientific writing each problem down to possibly tell Leica what is going on.  I gave the Q an overnight rest and will see what sticks today.  I can live with what I have right now but want to hammer out these little details so the camera is enjoyable.  Thanks for your comments here and from 2023 (I've read everything on this forum and the inter-webs twice!)

Will do.  But I don't think this is the problem since most settings stick initially, turn off the camera, 2 minutes later still there, turn off for a few hours and POOF - gone!  I don't think that's the culprit here but I'll look out for this step.  Thanks for your input.

Good luck.  I haven't had any issues of late after initial issues.  Now, one thing I found is that if I change something in the setting besides shutter speed and aperture, the profile reverts back to standard.  Little annoying, but I can quickly switch back from the status screen.

I've heard this from a few folks, too.  I'll work with it a while and maybe the cause will reveal itself as I plod forward.  Thanks!

What happens with the Q2 and Q3 is that the settings stay active. If you close the camera down and then reopen those settings should still be there. But, and it’s a big but, those settings are not saved to a profile. Essentially the settings remain in a kind of memory bubble until to revert to an already saved profile. Think of this a bit like having an open doc in MSWord. If you close MSWord the doc remains as a temp file and can be reopened, but it doesn’t have a name or an official file location on your hard drive.

Yes, that is true.  Whatever new settings I picked, they stick. However, if you want to get back to the original profile setting, you have to pick the profile again.   I understand the rationale for doing this, but sometimes I wish when I turn off the camera, it reverts back to the original profile I had before the changes.

Nope.  No matter what I do USER1 "DAY" Fn button will eventually fall back to WHITE BALANCE.  I've never used WHITE BALANCE on ANY camera in my life!  Never selected it.  Just eventually migrates back to that no matter what I select.  And other USER settings noticing Exposure Comp setting doesn't save actual setting but it might show what I commanded, Exposure Comp.  Just might show zero on Exposure Comp.  So, I have to check that every time now.  Therefore, I changed rear dial to Exp Comp permanently.  Yeesh...

Just a check: to save a user profile, you go the USER PROFILES, MANAGE PROFILES, SAVE PROFILE, select the correct profile, click right arrow, click YES. Is that what you're doing?

Apologies if that's all known to you, but it's worth clearing up.

That sequence is on my Q2 - I'm guessing it's the same on the Q - it's been the same on my CL and SL2-S.

Yep, yep, many times I've loaded these profiles same way each time going all the way to the end in sub menu.  Wife watched me and she only made 3 B's in college, the rest A's.  She's stumped, too.  I have a layover in Tokyo and might go to Ginza Six to have them look at it next week.  Called Leica Seattle and they gave me the typical thing to do:  Factory reset + brand new SD card reformatted IN camera.  Done factory reset 3x now.  This time I'm leaving all settings in and will live with it for a while.  Thanks!

For the function button, you have to change it by pressing the button for a few seconds and select the option you want.  As far as I know the function button is preserved even when you change the user profile.  There is an option to list or delist the options available for the function button in the menu though.  Now I have to ask whether you are confusing several things here.
