Stuart Richardson Posted November 30, 2007 Share #21 Posted November 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is hard to go wrong with either. The 50 ASPH is extremely sharp at all distances and apertures. Some find the bokeh harsh, but in most situations it is quite nice. I don't disagree that it can occasionally be disturbing, however. The 50/1.4 pre-asph is nice, but I agree with Jack -- make sure you get one that focuses to .7m. That extra 30cm makes a big difference in filing the frame, so if you want to ever use it close, that is nice to have. If the cost difference is not a big deal to you, just get the ASPH. It won't let you down in any way...sharpness, resistance to flare and so on. It is basically a 50mm summicron with an extra stop.
Advertisement Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Hi Stuart Richardson, Take a look here lux50 asph vs lux50 (before2004). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Stuart Richardson Posted November 30, 2007 Share #22 Posted November 30, 2007 I suppose I should add some photos! Not that they tell you all that much about the lenses... pre-asph: Asph
doug_m Posted December 1, 2007 Share #23 Posted December 1, 2007 The size and weight of the 50 mm ASPH does not seem to me to be much different than the pre ASPH. I do like the built in lens hood of the pre ASPH better but that is a minor issue which is far outweighed by the 50 ASPH's better overall performance. If you can afford it buy the 50 ASPH. Mauribix Posted December 1, 2007 Author Share #24 Posted December 1, 2007 http://tinyurl.com/rv7w/DSC00622-afterweb.jpghttp://tinyurl.com/rv7w/LeicaM_5014_11868.pdf http://tinyurl.com/rv7w/LeicaM_5014asph.pdf Thanks a lot ! it was really what i was looking for! and thanks to you all guys, pleas keep on sharing your shots, i'm really getting mad for these lenses.... the best way should be to own both eheheheh..... but to be honest i should try the ASPH one, all the shots that I've seen with pre-asph are making me screaming, while sometimes the asph ones don't, but there's a way that asph "cut" that really makes me wonder... always harder to choose... regards Maurizio MAURIZIO BEUCCI.com - Official web site P.S. it's a pity that i can't find the pre-asph in Sean's reviews, it could be nice to hear what He thinks about... frank_dernie Posted December 1, 2007 Share #26 Posted December 1, 2007 FWIW I have been using a 1983 50 summilux which I bought second hand since 1986. It has been my favourite 50 by far. After much web hype I bought a Voigtlander 50 f1.5 which I got rid of fairly quickly because of the ugly rendering and harsh bokeh. A couple of months ago I bought the 50 f1.4 asph and haven't used the old one since. It is fantastic. Frank
