35 Summilux pre-ASPH on M10?

I have been thinking of getting a 35 Summilux pre-ASPH 2nd version to use on my M10.
I've read in several places that some have issues mounting on digital M bodies (specifically M8s and M9s) and focusing to infinity due to the length of the shroud at the rear of the lens, however I haven't seen any mention of M10s.

Does anyone know for sure whether the Summilux v2 will function without modification on the M10?

Oh wow, this was unknown to me when I naively put my 11870 lens on my M10.

 

These older threads offer some anecdotes, but no hard facts. Seems like this is more likely an issue with the Canada-made Summiluxes, and the M10 has a protruding bayonet mount to minimize this issue.

On page 135 in the M10 manual you'll find the following important note:

Important:
• The following cannot be used:
–– Hologon 15mm f/8,
–– Summicron 50mm f/2 with close-up attachment,
–– Elmar 90mm f/4 with retractable barrel (manufactured from
1954-1968)
–– Some versions of the Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 (not aspheri-
cal, manufactured from 1961-1995, Made in Canada) cannot
be attached to the camera or will not focus to infinity. The
Leica Customer Care department can modify these lenses so
that they can be used on the camera.

To be safe, why not just purchase one that has been tested/used on a digital M without issue. So many of them around, I'm sure that you can find one that is ok. I'm not sure if it is serial number related or just random but I have one starting with serial number '339.. and it works fine on both an m10r and m8u.

I was unaware of this issue and have had several of these v2 lenses (and two v1), all with baffles and no issue on M10.  So hopefully that means it's not common to find the other type.  To my knowledge it's not mentioned in the thread dedicated to this lens .  To be sure as Costa mentions ask the usage history and whether used on M10.  If it has then nothing to worry about.

Even with the 'harmless' baffle... good idea to always mount/un-mount/store the lens in the minimum focus distance, i.e. rear element and baffle at its highest position, because it does protrude when at Infinity.

I sent mine, a 1974 lens, to Wetzlar so they could grade off the last bit so it wouldn’t hurt the camera. It works very well on the M240 and M10.
