Knightspirit Posted July 24, 2024 Share #21  Posted July 24, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just did a check of all of my 6 lenses using the LLL 1.25 magnifier. This because my new LLL 35mm 8 element was clearly off at infinity. What I discovered was that virtually every lens I have was off - which obviously meant that my body needed adjustment. I used the appropriate tool to adjust the rangefinder on my M11 and am now confident that my adjustment is accurate. There is still a very slight difference in some lenses vs others but all are so close it shouldn’t make any difference. I did some close focus tests and all were good! I had no idea until I really checked it with the magnifier - so it’s important to double check.

I have done thousands of miles on corrugated dirt British roads - and have never had a rangefinder go off during a trip. The first thing (normally) to drift off is the infinity focus so if you do an infinity test once a day, you're likely to spot if the rangefinder is going awry... and the adjustment is done with a hex key (2.5mm? - I think) which is always in the bottom of the bag. You're more likely to have a problem if you drop the camera, as you know already. I wouldn't worry at all about a Leica in a Billingham bag in a car on UK roads. Sahara clip (needs headphones) - two days of this just following a compass heading. Cameras worked fine!   Edited July 25, 2024 by PCPix
