Today I ordered Leica Q3 and I will entry happily in to Leica family.

I ordered together with my Leica Q3

I would like to suggest me the best accessories for

  1. Strap . I like this COOPH rope strap. Which size is better100cm or 126? https://store.cooph.com/en-eu/collections/leica-rope-straps-created-by-cooph/products/leica-rope-strap  I like this strap too but its sold out. https://cleversupply.co/products/ioe-short-strap , Here another good strap https://www.artisanworkstation.co/listing/604118597/ms-edition-handmade-genuine-cowhide Which is more comfortable. I like to have my camera in front of me, not sideways.
  2. Grip . I like this IDSworks modular grip for Leica Q3 more than Leica grip (I dont care about wifi charging) Somethimg better?. https://idsworks.store/en-gr/products/idsworks-modular-grip-for-leica-q3?variant=41670010830893
  3. Half case leather. I want something simple not extra fancy, leather. The options are the original from Leica  https://leica-camera.com/en-int/photography/accessories/cases/protector-q3-leather-black or Artisan half case  https://www.artisanworkstation.co/listing/1399250640/leica-m11-handmade-half-case-leather
  4. Flash. I use very rarely flash, I like to be small. Like Lightpix Lab FLASHQ M20 WIRELESS (It is comaptible with Leica Q3)  https://www.lightpixlabs.com/pages/m20 Another options. If its TTL ii will be great.
  5. Soft Release Button . I like the original from Leica https://leica-camera.com/de-DE/fotografie/accessoires/soft-release/soft-release-button-leica-12mm-schwarz We have another good option?

If there is something I've forgotten please send me your suggestions.

  • GREG PLAT changed the title to LEICA Q3 BEST ACCESSORIES (LEICA and THIRD PARTY)

My current setup.

Peak Design Sling 3L - perfect size for the Q3

Peak Design Capture Clip—It is convenient to rest the camera between shootings.   I hate to put it in the bag and take it out again.

Peak Design leash - nice adjustable camera strap

Lecia Q3 half case—great fit and protection for the camera. It covers the SD card and USB Charger, but most of the time I don't need to take off the case.  Now with the fast WIFI Transfer(version 4.4), I don't need to take out the card to transfer the files to my computer.

Extra battery

It looks like you already ordered the thumb support which (IMO) is the most essential accessory and makes a huge difference in handling. Of course an extra battery is important too, especially because you will be traveling. You can read my review of the LIMs half case which I like and think is well designed. That said, I never use the half case. I prefer the feel of the camera without any extra bulk. I guess it depends how important it is for you to keep the body nick and ding free.

Straps, cases and bags are so personal you'll have to try some out and decide. I like Peak Design fasteners so I can quickly change between wrist strap and neck strap. I just ordered a Spinn.Design strap and FastLock system but no hands on experience with it yet (FastLock won't be released for a few months) I like my ThinkTank Restrospective 5 v2 bag. I think it's perfect for a carry-it-with-me-everywhere bag for Q3 and essential accessories. But if you ask two photographers, you get three opinions!

Enjoy your new camera and happy shooting!

Congrats!  You certainly considered all your options.  😎

My favorite Q2 accessories - assuming they will have the same usefulness to the Q3.

Leica thumb grip.  Indispensable, imo.  Huge improvement in holdability.

Paracord strap with Peak Design anchors by Okli.  https://www.etsy.com/listing/997837669/cotton-with-paracord-v1-peak-design?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=paracord+leica+strap&ref=sr_gallery-1-8&frs=1&sts=1&organic_search_click=1

I really like the Artisan & Artist silk strap. http://www.artisan-n-artist.com/product_detail.php?id=228

This is the longer one that lets you wear the camera cross-body if you want. There is also a shorter (standard) model.

The quality is great and it can be scrunched up to take hardly any space.

I have that Grip and if the JJC would've been available when I bought mine, I would have bought that. The screw comes loose, the tolerance on the doors to open is too thight and if you use it on a tripod you'll easily scratch the material. The IDS is not worth the price imho, I'd get the JJC or if you need an L-bracket look at Really Right Stuff

A lens cap (E49) is included within the Q3 box, you are just buying a spare!

I'm going to go against the grain here and not advocate the thumbrest, having used X100 series cameras and other Fuji's for 10+ years, I got used to not having a thumrest on a realtively thin body. The Leica has a nice notch in the back for your thumb, and I feel that the thumbrest gets in teh way of quick access to the rotary dial (exposure compensation), I use this a lot. so have opted not to go for the thumbrest - not had any issues so far.

I have purchased an additional grip (JJC), don't like it handheld, IMO unbalances the camera, but I will use it when I want to tripod mount the camera. I will probably buy the RRS grip at some point as it enables quick Arca change between portrait and landscape formats.

I would like to point out that I have quite small hands, those with larger hands may want to have the camera in hand differently.

Soft Release - why? It just seems to stick up too far, and your shutter finger is noticably higher in the air, and IMO in a less comfortable position.

Strap - I use Peak Design Slide Light and Cuff - whilst not the prettiest, they are very functional.

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Q3.  My thoughts would be to keep it minimalistic until you use your Q3 for a while and find out what you need.  For me, the best basic accessories are:

  • Spare battery
  • LCD screen protector
  • A couple of UHS II fast SD cards
  • Half-case with access to battery (mine was purchased from Etsy, not expensive)
  • I prefer a rope-type strap with enough length to wear cross body (purchased from Etsy)
  • Small carry bag for the camera and a few accessories

That's it.  I find the half case and indentation provides sufficient grip for me.  I also don't care for the thumbrest.   I rarely have use for a flash with the Q3.  I have a Godox Jr. flash and used in once for a passport photo of my wife.  The soft release is not necessary, but you can purchase them inexpensively from Amazon.  Be sure to use the small rubber O ring, to keep the soft release from falling off and getting lost.

Thaks for the list, Greg. I would like a small flash but I do not see one listed for Q cameras.  Are you referring to just a manual flash?  If not, could you give a more direct like to the Q compatible flash?

Has anyone tried this finger loop? It’s comfortable? It’s good?

https://leica-camera.com/de-DE/fotografie/accessoires/handgriff/fingerschlaufe-grosse-l-fur-handgriff

I owned and used the Leica finger loop (size M) for about 18 months, and I really liked it, however...one day, quite randomly and unexpectedly, it simply broke. There's a very small, thin metal plate anchoring the rubber loop to the screw-clamp fixture, and in my case, the rubber loop sheared clean right where it meets the metal plate (the back side of the loop, nearest the camera). I wasn't putting the finger loop under any particular stress at the moment of failure, so I'm concerned it may have actually been a case of chemical decomposition of the rubber loop compound (e.g. dry rot). The incident was slightly alarming, as the security that the loop confers was suddenly compromised, giving a momentary impression that I was losing my grip on the camera. Also, of course, the finger loop does add an extra inch or two of bulk to the camera, which, depending on how you like to carry and/or store your camera, may be consequential. Notwithstanding all of the aforementioned, I did like using the finger loop, and although I've gone without it for about a year now, I'm thinking seriously about getting another one. Just be smart and forewarned not to depend solely on the loop for securing your camera in your hand. If it suddenly fails, as mine did, you could be in for a very expensive and heartbreaking surprise.
