I have recently acquired a M4  black Leica camera body, which I am seeking information.    It's serial number is 1206871,  preceeding the serial number is M4 - 4.   Following is what I have garnered on the internet:

"The camera with serial Number 1206871 is an MDa built in the year 1968-69".

"In 1970s E. Leitz Inc. manufactured many MDa Mot cameras for use on Zeiss fundus cameras, an unexpected outcome of this cooperation was a number of M4-M and M4-MOT cameras being left without parts necessary for motor use. These Leicas were fitted with a grooved body casting for marker-strips and sold as special black M4's".

I would greatly any insight concerning the camera, whereas it appears to be rather unusual.

A photo would help.   Reportedly a lot of 155 M4-M cameras at 1206737 to 1206891 with some M4-MDa cameras mixed in near the end.  I have recorded these cameras:

M4-M      1206868, 872, 874, 878, 880   and 22 M4-M's before 846

M4-MDa    1206846, 851, 883, 885  with none before 846

Your 1206871 could well be a M4-M   or M4MDa   as you note. May depend on the features we could see in a photo.
