Problems AF zoom

I am since shortly the owner of a SL2-S with 24-90 zoom.

I have set - after some googling - the auto focus of the lens to S, Intelligent AF with Face/Eye recognition and Pets/Children.

I have two issues:

Sometimes the AF area (small rectangle) is suddenly in one of the corners of the EVF and is not "willing" to center again, regardless whether I am aiming at a person in the middle of the EVF. The AF area goes to the centre again once I have switched the camera off and on again. But this obviously not be like that. What do I need to do?

I love taking pictures of my daughter while playing. But when she moves around, the AF has in this mode problems following her. In particular when we are at a restaurant or so (dimmer light). What is with 6.0 the best autofocus mode for say street photography with people moving around?
