JGW Posted November 27, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I did mention this in another tread, but would really like to hear from anyone who might have experienced anything like this problem. My camera has developed a shutter fault. It's an intermittent problem where the camera seems to have difficulty re-cocking the shutter, which results in an elongated whirring sound after pressing the shutter. One frame would be correctly exposed during this sound, though I can't take another shot until it's stopped. On one occasion after bringing the camera in the house from outside, I tried the camera and this whirring sound was continuous and I had to take the battery out to stop it. When I put the battery back in it continued. At first I thought it might be a reaction against the recent firmware update as it seemed to coincide with the upgrade. I reverted to 1_107 which the camera accepted without trouble but the problem was still there, so I'm now back to 1_1110. I did use the camera a couple of months ago in Scotland where it was raining, though obviously I didn't let the camera get particularly wet and had it under my coat most of the time, and the camera has been fine up until the past week or so. I spoke to the service department at Milton Keynes today about sending the camera in for repair. Has anyone experienced anything similar please? JGW. hammam Posted November 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 27, 2007 I have the exact same problem. It occurs once in ten outings or so. I had to remove the battery as well at a couple of occasions. The cocking of the shutter just does not «grab» or something. I think your camera, and mine and probably a few others, needs to be serviced under warranty. The problem is the turnaround time and how long we are willing to part from our camera, which still works fine most the time.
JGW Posted November 27, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted November 27, 2007 Hello and thanks for your reply, That's interesting. My camera does this every 5 or 6 shutter presses though. As I use this camera for documentary work the extra unpredictable racket is very disconcerting. I'll probably have to send it in, though I won't bother until after Christmas now. Leica did say they would 'log' the fault and try to investigate the cause so that it dosn't happen again to any camera. I'll see if it settles down a bit in the mean time. hammam Posted November 27, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 27, 2007 JGW, 5 or 6 shutter actuations is a lot. Was it like that from the start or did it worsen over time?
robsteve Posted November 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 27, 2007 Oliver: If you send direct to Solms, the repair is a bit quicker. By Fedex it was a two or three day trip each way and about a week at Leica.
JGW Posted November 27, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted November 27, 2007 Hi hammam, I think it has worsened, especially now that the weather is getting colder. I hope yours doesn't! If I bring the camera indoors to shoot after working outside it's useless. Oliver, thank you for the info. Leica UK told me it would be away for up to 2 months! JGW.
