egrossman Posted February 21, 2024 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I read earlier threads about the internal plastic base of the Leica slim case damaging the finish of the Q3 base and was wondering if this was just a bad batch or an actual case design flaw? Does anyone have a Leica slim case where the plastic at the base isn’t exposed and is covered with leather?

Yes, my green half case has a small piece of leather attached inside the case so that the Q3 doesn't touch the plastic base of the case. I guess you've already seen my posts on the other thread so it would be good if other owners could comment.
egrossman Posted February 21, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted February 21, 2024 Do you find that taking the camera in and out of the case with a leather interior also wears on the camera finish? I say that because there is no access to the flash card from the base of the case from what I understand.
jps1 Posted February 22, 2024 Share #4 Posted February 22, 2024 (edited) The base of the half case (metal)Leica caused scratches Side on the memory card case and I added thick self-adhesive felt on the base. Bad point for Leica! Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! egrossman Posted February 22, 2024 Author Share #5 Posted February 22, 2024 Thanks for this. I ordered an open box black Leica half case from B&H for $200 last night. I will see if the plastic on the inside is covered or not. Easy to return otherwise. Do you find that the felt repair significantly affects how high the camera sits inside the case? 8 hours ago, jps1 said: The base of the half case (metal)Leica caused scratches Side on the memory card case and I added thick self-adhesive felt on the base. egrossman Posted February 22, 2024 Author Share #7 Posted February 22, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Honestly inexcusable on Leica's part. Don't they test the products they sell?
JNK100 Posted February 23, 2024 Share #8 Posted February 23, 2024 I suggest the Oberwerth case. Expensive but fantastic quality and allows access to both the battery and SD card.
egrossman Posted February 23, 2024 Author Share #9 Posted February 23, 2024 I’m not sure I like the fact that there is no protection at all on the usb port side of the Q with the Oberworth case. dnease Posted February 23, 2024 Share #10 Posted February 23, 2024 I have the Oberwerth half case and actually like the fact that it doesn't block the port cover, as access to the card slot on the bottom is blocked if you are using a tripod screw in the base. I've not detected any risk to the port cover so far from it being not covered by the half case.
egrossman Posted February 23, 2024 Author Share #11 Posted February 23, 2024 Just received my Leica case from B&H (used but "like new" for $200) and the company has clearly made changes to the prevent damage to the base of the camera by adding leather to the internal base. Also, unlike earlier reports of not being able to tilt the rear display with the case on, I have no problem doing that too. Be careful, it's exactly the same as mine that scratched my case. It's the metal part on the left that scratches. That's why I added the self-adhesive felt! egrossman Posted February 25, 2024 Author Share #16 Posted February 25, 2024 For the price I paid it should have been better designed to protect the camera and not actually scuff it (the irony).

egrossman Posted February 26, 2024 Author Share #18 Posted February 26, 2024 I decided to go a different direction. I'll remain caseless and ordered the IDS grip for times I want more stability.
