Pitching the exposure midway between the extremes (though the blackest parts were only the distant trees) 
ensured that the image could be managed in lightroom and the full captured range be brought to life.

Shown is the resulting DNG, which is very flat and without much colour, not that much less so than in the scene by naked eye.

The resulting mono conversion shows what can be achieved with simple adjustments in post with lightroom. And shows just how good the sensor is.  Some technique learning and experience is required and could be considered to be an advanced stage by some, but it is well worth the effort.

If the exposure had been to look after the massive sky highlight, (in camera jpeg) then the land would have blocked completely and been pretty useless with noise (when pulled back)

Balancing out with the CL is so capable.  And the mono from colour is the best i’ve seen, again, when knowing what to do.  A dedicated mono variant Leica is convenience only, if the CL is used to it’s best advantage.

I have made the sky a little over dramatic for demonstration.
